Q: how do i change the sound output in my sound options to enable the miniport to hdmi cable to put sound through the TV

i have a Sharp aquos quattron TV, i wish to use my macbook on the tv via hdmi-miniport cable.  there is no problem with the video in any way but i cannot figure out how to change the output channel for the sound to come through the miniport-hdmi cable???

miniport to hdmi cable, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    If your MBP was made before April 2010, it doesn't send any audio signal through its min-Displayport, and you'll have to make a separate audio connection from the MBP's headphone port to the TV.

     

    If it was made after April 2010, just select the TV in System Prefs > Sound > Output.
