Guys...I just changed my DNS settings to 22.214.171.124 and now it works for me. Try it out.
Just go to System preferences, then click on networks...then click on your wifi network and then click on the advanced button at the bottom right hand side. Then click on the DNS tab and then under the DNS servers column, click the '+' button and add 126.96.36.199.
It should work from then on.

I was having the same problem sending iMessages from my macbook to my 3GS. Then I tried placing the country code in front of the phone number and it works like a charm. For example my number is 012237xxxx. I just put the country code +6012237xxxx and send it. duhh!

I'm from Malaysia and I was wondering I could try this with you guys from all over the world. Would it worked like the infamous Blackberry BBM? Kindly PM me your phone numbers if you wish to try this.

Or you could just configure Messages on your iPhone with your Apple ID (Email address). See this support document. Read the section "How do I set up my Mac and iOS devices for iMessage conversations?"

That worked for me.
Changed my contact's iphone number in the address book and added +34 - for spain - in front of his number.
I was then able to send and receive from him.

It worked for me for the first few days. It was great. Then one day it just stopped working. Everything in the menus are greyed out, even preferences. Doesn't matter what location I'm at or what DNS I use. I'm already using 220.127.116.11 (Google). I guess I'll wait for the next update.

After three days of kicking myself in the head, below steps worked for me.
First of all, I was uable to send SMS/Text/iMessage from "Messages Beta", from my iPhone and from my iPad several days after installing the beta.
- Messages > Preferrences > accounts > disable your Apple ID / aka the iMessage account
- Quit Messages Beta
- Go to your iphone.
- Settings > Messages > disable iMessage
- Wait 3 moments
- Turn iMessage back on in your phone and wait until you see it get activated
- Launch/start Message Beta
- Message > Preferrences > Accounts > Activate your Apple ID / aka the imessage account
It worked for me.

please ignore "SMS" in the above. SMS worked. iMessage was not.

Today Messages just stopped sending. I can get them fine, but can't send any (red exclamaiton point)
Apple ID 1 on an iPhone 4 and iOS 5.1
Apple ID 2 on an iPad (3rd gen) and iOS 5.1, also on Messages Beta on iMac with 10.7.3
DNS includes 18.104.22.168
Apple ID 1 - No problems sending to anyone (including Apple ID 2)
Apple ID 2 - Get's messages in both places, can send from the iPad, but get's the red ! on the iMac.
Has worked flawlessly until today.
