Feb 18, 2012 2:59 PM in response to John Galtby Roger Wilmut1,To clarify: Pages can open .cwk Word Processing files created in Appleworks 6, not earlier versions.

Feb 18, 2012 3:26 PM in response to Roger Wilmut1by John Galt,Yes. To read .cwk created by AW5 or earlier, AW6 is required. I don't know of any other method.
The OP could compress and email the file to someone with AW6, who could convert it and send it back. There have been ASC participants who have offered to do so in the past.

Feb 18, 2012 7:33 PM in response to fiscustjby Peggy,If it's only a file or two or three I can convert them & send them back to you. I would not be able to do it until some time on Monday.
Word can usually open AppleWorks word processing files but you would get a lot of "garbage" before & after the actual content. Conversion is usually better with Word for Mac than Windows.

Feb 19, 2012 1:50 PM in response to Peggyby fiscustj,Thanks, Peggy. I contacted the originator and had her paste the cwk text into an email and send it. So, problem solved. I really appreciate your willingness to help. Cheers. Tom

Aug 3, 2012 12:13 PM in response to fiscustjby geraldfromdorchester,Hi,
I went back to my eMac and converted my .cwk to AW 6.2.
However I put them on my iMac (10.7.4) and pages says that my AW 6.2 docs are not word processing documents.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Jan 21, 2013 9:08 AM in response to fiscustjby Wm. M. Hayes,I've got a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 processor running OS 10.7.5 and I just opened a .cwk file by first opening the TextEdit.app and then going to the "file" menu and selecting the .cwk file that I wanted to open and it worked. There was a lot of "Machine" language before and after the actual body of text in the file, but it worked. I couldn't believe it.

iTunesPages will not open a Draw document, only Word Processing. Are these Draw or Word Processing with embedded images? (Page should handle those.)
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).

Jan 21, 2013 10:05 AM in response to Roger Wilmut1by geraldfromdorchester,Apple Works drawings; not complex. Cirlces, lines and textboxes, it is a football playbook.
Thanks I will take a look at those options.

iTunesEven if they are simple, Pages cannot recognize nor open Draw Documents. EazyDraw (in the right version) is a practicable but I'm aftraid not cheap alternative.
