Q: Copy to/from simple USB stick with ipad2+adapter?

Hey,

Still fairly new to these forums (and Apples). Tried searching for an answer to this but it didn't return anything relevant.

I've seen various cheap iPad to female USB adapters (as well as 5-1 sd,cf,etc adapters) and wondered if there is a simple way to copy to and from the USB stick?

Preferably without the need to jailbreak the ipad2 as I've managed to avoid that so far. I'd just like to copy files to and from the ipad2 to a simple USB stick, rather than wirelessly.

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit to transfer pics & movie files to the iPad.

Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).

Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

     Cheers, Tom

Ah, cheers, I'll set up a USB stick, order the adapter and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

as of now, there is no protocol for the USB on the camera connection kit to transfer anything but photos and videos. It will not 'see' or acknowledge document files. In addition even with photos, it only moves them onto the ipad, it does not move htem off the iPad.

There are a few devices out there, iDrive or iFlash I think it's called, that are usb on one end, 30 pin on the other.

There is also the seagate goflex, a harddrive that has its own wifi transmitter. But it's gotten mixed reviews (and at 150-200, kinda a pricey experiment)
