I'm creating an ePub through Pages, using a lot of text and images. When I export and test it out on the iPad, I find that, although all text is present, there are images missing. It seems around 25ish is the max number and then it won't display them.

It also seems as though 5.1mb is the largest file size the ePub will go to when exporting from Pages. If I stick more content in it still only makes a 5.1mb file, which I assume is why there are pics missing. Does anyone know if there is a maximum number of pics that can be used?

Has anyone else had more success in the same circumstances? I didn't expect to get stumped on such a simple and unexpected hurdle!

Thanks.

Other users have indicated they were able to include 200 or more images in their files. (The Apple iPad User Guide contains 203 images.)

I have ePUB files in excess of 30 MBs with an embedded movie.

Has anyone else had more success in the same circumstances?

As indicated above, the limits you indicated do not seem to apply. It would seem that something else is at work here or at least contributing to your problem..

Thanks Jon, yeh I assumed it was possible and I'm clearly doing something wrong. Have these ePUBs you reference been constructed in Pages? Perhaps that's where the problem lies.

choondoonga's 100,000 word/200 image project was done in Pages (SEE HERE). His complaint was that the ePUB file (at 45 MBs) was larger than his Pages project file (at 35 MBs) due to JPEG images being saved as PNGs which are less compressed. As to the Apple iPad User's Guide, I don't know. (I suspect they used a more professional app like InDesign.) My 30 MB project was done in both Pages and Legend maker for comparison purposes.

Cool, okay - least I know that Pages is capable (which I'd always expected it would be!). Mmm not sure what's going on then. There's pretty much sod all Export options so perhaps there's something up with the images I'm using...

    Thanks Jon!

Further to the above image troubles, in an effort to pinpoint the problem I've started from scratch, creating a brand new plain document, made sure all the pics are small RGB, and even tried using Pages' Reduce File Size option, but still, only get 23 images to show up in the final iBook on the iPad out of the 40 I put in the document. This is driving me up the wall!

Any further suggestions from anyone would be gratefully received!

To put an end this post, I solved my problems by switching to Indesign CS5.5 and moving on with life! Woooyar!

5.5 bangs out a cracking ePub, and with just a minor tweak in the toc.nx file, we're home and dry as far as Apple is concerned.

    And relax.

Do you have the images inline. I do recall they have to be inline and not floating!!

I was having the same problem when my entire Pages document was one long chapter. It was a just a draft at that point. When I separated the document into chapters, the problem went away. So I think there might be a maximum number of photos per chapter. Or perhaps a maximum file size per chapter.

All of Apple's User Guides are produced with Adobe Indesign CS3. Apple are a really cheap bunch and haven't upgraded in years.

    Look here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4168

It will tell you that the amount images can't be more than 11 Mb per chapter.

Yes the solution is to had Chapter using the formating command "Title" the link only goes to the epub page and not to a specific epub conversion pages so I copy and paste from an other post....

After going through all the posts in the forum and not finding an exact match, I called Apple Express Lane support and got someone in the Pages department in about 10 minutes. After going through a lot of basics, I was referred to a document that had the hidden gem in it - there is a limit of 11MB of un-encoded image data per chapter. (I am assuming that en-encoded means as placed in the document.)

This save me a lot of time

That is what you would have been able to read if you had clicked on the link in my post just above yours!
