It's worked fine for a couple of years and now it asks for my password, which it will not acknowledge.   I checked my .mac account settings, etc and all seems fine.  The .mac account runs fine on my phone and thru iCloud.  But now not on my desktop.

They're killing off MobileMe and I noticed that my desktop won't sync anymore with that either.  Related?    It appears that you will need OSX Lion to function fully with iCloud.    Let's see, I'm only 13 OSX upgrades behind........

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Hello, I think they're slowly nudging people to switch, .mac & MobileMe are going away about July, may as well set it up now.

I understand .mac mail will still come through.

iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...

    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

    Server name: imap.mail.me.com

    SSL Required: Yes

    Port: 993

Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

    Password: Your iCloud password

    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com

    SSL Required: Yes

    Port: 587

    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes

Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

    Password: Your iCloud password

DEleting an Account will erase all the Mails.

Did you get an iCloud Password & set up a new IMAP account, or try to change the existing one?

    I have iCloud IMAP setup on G4s & G5s running 10.4.11 & 10.5.8, so I know it does work, & syncs fine with iCloud IMAP on 10.6.5, 10.6.8, & 10.7.3

The biggest problem on old Macs/OSes is that .mac & MobileMe choice tries to set the servers to mail.me.com & smtp.me.com instead of imap.mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com

Agreed about the older osx mail trying to default back to the old server settings.  I tried changing my mail settings on my G5 to imap.mail.me.com and even though I save settings it changes right back to mail.mac.com.  I just don't understand why.  Is there a mac equivalent of a windows .ini file that can be edited to change it?  I feel there must be some background settings somewhere causing the return to default.

Cheers... great thread, just wishing it would work!!
