Hi All,

I thought I'd "Help" and list the bugs I'm experiencing in Messages Beta. Part of the reason is to give some feedback to the team developing it and also to see if it's just me.

1) Messages don't sync properly between devices.

Lots of people have this problem and lots of people are offering solutions mainly around Apple IDs and Caller IDs. I've tried everything and I still can't get them to sync properly. I end up with messages missing.

2) Late messages. A bit like messages not syncing, but they do arrive eventually, just late.

3) Messages out of order on the same device even when delivery reports suggest they shouldn't be.

A sends a picture to B. A gets told that it has been delivered even though B hasn't received it yet. A sends a message to say "what do you think of that picture". B replies "what picture"

4) Failure to send

I often try to send a message and then after a while I get the red exclamation mark to say it failed. It sends on the re-try. It's like Messages has lost connection to the server because when this happens I sometimes get old messages delivered too.

5) Doc icon tells me I have unread messages when I don't

6) The app sometimes marks messages as unread when I have read them and will keep doing this. Over time I seem to be building up a stack of unread messages.

    Hi Rob,

I don't have any of these issues (at least so far) but I wanted to add my bug to the list.

I did have a weird situation where messages from one conversation were all (both sides) being sent to another seperate conversation participant.

I didn't see this but the other person let me know. In both cases I was sending from my laptop to iphones.

    Cheers,

    Pete

Adding to Pete's post for continuity

I have seen one thread where someone claims they are sending from One ID  but thier own phoine and the person they are sending to says it has been sent from a third ID  (They are in fact a sister and two brothers but the sister's phone sasy the other brother is sending the message)

I have yet to have it confirmed that these @me.com names are a Family Account.

Not seeing these other issues you talk about in this thread.

I have the same problem. I have my mother setup with my apple ID for software but she has her own iCloud ID and when I send messages from my beta client to a friend other than my mother she gets the texts as well.

I have the same issue as your #5.

Currently says I have 16 messages when I clearly don't.

It seems to happen when I open Messages and it updates with all the missed texts that it doesn't have yet.

On several occasions, I have scrolled up through previous messages and "circled" back to the most recent message (i.e., I can scroll up continuously and only see a handful of recent messages, and end up back at the most recent message again and again), or huge gaps of time (years!) have disappeared between messages. Very bizarre. Not really a big problem, per se, but still an obvious bug.

    HI,

I would check both your and your mother's System Preferences > iCloud and Mail, Contacts and Calendars and check which IDs are linked to what apps.

    Notes.

I can set up a message and "Send" it am Messages make the noses that it has gone but nothing appears in the chat window part.

This tends to happen on the first Messages sent to that person (multiple times in Messages but only once to those it happens with).

    Re 4:

I had this (Above) happen with a Pic I thought I had sent.

    Currently trying to test further.

This might of course be an item 3 issue.

Re 5:  Not seeing this but I ma not sending or receiving that many iMessages yet.

    Edit.
    Re 4 and 3

The Message that made the sounds that I had sent the message was seen on my Phone and on my son's (testee)  (I ended up sending the pic twice)

Also in Messages, like I used to in iChat, I typed a comment in the Balloon the Pic went it but my phone shows pics and text separately.

Just ran into a bug today.  My mac has been turned off for two days.  When I turn my mac on, not only does messages pop up and start delivering my imessages (which I can't stand), but it is delivering the last two days worth of messages.  It wouldn't stop until the very last imessage was delivered to my mac

    My biggest bug issues are:

1.) Can not log-in I either get the spinning wheel for hours OR it tells me my appleID and password don't match which is so not the case as it's the same AID and pswd I use to log-in here.

2.) If Messages is open and I get a FaceTime call i get NO notification or any indication that someone was tryig to contact me. THe standalone FT app doesnt even open as it did. If I close FT the regular app behaves as it should by ringing, bouncing and opening by itself.

Two big bugs, but the first one was present in iChat....

    1) Status goes offline, the only way to get back online is to go under preferences for the AIM account and Uncheck and then Check the "Enable this Account" box.

    2) I've tried to send a picture through the system like I did in iChat, but it hangs on the recipient's side, annoying....

I'm having the same issues with Google Talk.  I get a connection error unless I disable and renable.

(I really hope Apple is reading these forums as there doesn't appear to be any other way to report an issue.  I've never seen a beta program that doesn't let you report issues.)

    Hello Rob Wheatley.

I've been suffering from the same bugs as you, plus one more than you.

When you drag a picture from the desktop into the conversation box to send as an iMessage, the window will shrick, changing it's size.

    For now, that's all.

    Hey Rob,

Great idea to start this thread, since apple doesn't let us report bugs

I'd like to add two bugs:

    - When messages is added to login items with the 'hide' box checked it won't hide at startup.

    - Messages doesn't show previous conversations until I open them manually using File>recent items>conversation.
