Hi,

is there a possibility to change the page size of an iAuthor iBook? I would like to create one which has the same dimension in portrait and landscape mode because the original paper book ist published in this way (of course I know, that I will get empty space when turning the iPad in portrait mode).

Thanks, Tom

iBook, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

No, not really, best thing to do would lock it in landscape mode, Even if you could have a landcape view in portrait

mode, the type would be too small to read.

You could fake it in a few ways, do it woud be with images instead of text but that would not be good. Large file size, no search etc. or  use added text boxes instead of the flowing "body" text boxes, (deleat those)

but this is sort of funky also and the TOC would not really work in either.

No. Don't try to fake it either. The end result wil not be pleasing. iBooks Author is designed to run on an iPad. If you desire a different "page" size, develop your book with other software. - Fabe

Oh, I thought you meant the whole book.

When you publish through i tunes I think you can define the cover format,

as for the Yellow Submarine, which is a different size for the whole book, it was not created with IBA.

Not sure how it was created.

Note that while LoE is iBA based, YSub is not...

If you are after something like the YS but want to do it in IBA.

    lock in landscape mode.

Have a background image on your master page of a square book open (blank pages)

ie. 1000 pix wide by 500 pix high

can have the page edges etc.

You will have space at top or bottom, can have linen texture or something else.

Technically Barnheisel, this does not change the "page" size, it only adds a smaller graphic inside the page.

Yes, Since you can't change the actual size of the ipad, technically you can't have a square page on the ipad.

This is the best you can do,

When i look at the Yellow Submarine book on my ipad this is how it looks. (with space on top and bottom)

    (screen capture below.)

So that is what I was suggesting.

If you want the square book spread to fill the full height you will have part of one of the pages cropped off.

    (748 x 2 = 1496)

472 pixels will be cropped off.

this is also how the YS book works, (ugly in my opinion) this is not possible in IBA.

Really, I think the best thing to do is reformat for the size of the ipad.

I wish they did this with the YS book.

That can take a bit of work though, so I can see why they did not.

It's like watching a Cinemascope movie on a standard TV.
