Feb 26, 2012 4:20 PM in response to Ryszby MuggsMcGinnis,Thanks. Now I wish I hadn't wasted my money on iPhoto and iMovie, but that's what Apple tech support told me I needed to get.

Feb 26, 2012 11:53 PM in response to MuggsMcGinnisby Julian Wright,Notes are part of your iCloud email account. That's why they appear in Mail.
Apple have announced that Mountain Lion (the next OS for Macs) will come with a dedicated Notes application just like iOS devices.

Feb 26, 2012 11:57 PM in response to MuggsMcGinnisby Julian Wright,Both iPhoto and iMovie are much more fully featured applications than Image Capture. Most people want to manage, organise and edit their photos and movies which Image Capture doesn't do. For the features they offer, iPhoto and iMovie cannot be beaten for the price. That's probably why they were recommended to you. Have you even spent a few minutes exploring the applications, to see what features you may find useful?

Feb 27, 2012 9:28 AM in response to Julian Wrightby MuggsMcGinnis,Yes, I've explored both products. iPhoto doesn't have anything useful beyond what I can do in Preview. iMovie has no value to me. I don't search software looking for something to use it for. I choose software to satisfy a need I already have. The only thing I wanted was a way to get my iPhone to sync content via iCloud.
By the way, if I don't need iPhoto to use iCloud, why do my photos not sync via iCloud until after I run iPhoto? Photos won't sync for days until I open iPhoto and then they'll show up after 5 or so minutes.

That's the first time you've mentioned that. So far you've only been talking about importing photos from your phone, no mention of iCloud until now.
By the way, if I don't need iPhoto to use iCloud
Who said that? iPhoto (or Aperture) is required for PhotoStream as that's what it syncs with on a Mac.

May 3, 2012 5:46 AM in response to MuggsMcGinnisby appletonian,If you're using iCloud:
1. Make sure you've synced your iPhone notes with iCloud
2. Open Mail on your Mac
3. You will see a copy of your notes in your Inbox as well as in Notes
4. Select a note you want to export
5. File > Save As... > Choose "Rich Text", "Plain Text", or "Raw Message Source"
6. Select the location you wish to save to and click "Save"
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for each note as needed
Note that if you select all notes in step 4, your notes will be exported combined as a single file. In either case (single or combined) the file you export will contain email headers which make it appear as though the note were emailed from your iCloud account (From, Subject, Date, message).

Apr 28, 2013 12:38 PM in response to MuggsMcGinnisby Ian_in_Norfolk,An alternative, especially useful if you don't actually use the Mail app which comes with the Mac, is to simply email the page of NOTES to yourself and pick them up on your mail website or app.

Apr 28, 2013 12:45 PM in response to MuggsMcGinnisby JBSpeare90,Bottom line is software needs to be updated on all devices. If you are using icloud, only new notes will sync over to your computer. Notes created before icloud was turned on will need to be re-entered or they will not sync. As long as your mac is up to date notes will have a sister-application that supports ios notes. And yes, iphoto or aperature is required to access photos from your photo stream. Outside of icloud, notes will sync through your email.
