    HI,

Currently I have several Buddy Lists logged in that were there in iChat.  (At least 2 AIM ones, 2 @mac.com ones, Yahoo, Googletalk and a Jabber one)

When I launched Messages fro the First time it insisted on having an Apple ID entered for  the iMessages side.

I used the @me.com name I had used to set up/link my Apple ID to iCloud.

AS the two @mac.com names are also Apple IDs plus  the original external email IS also My Apple ID I could try Alan's idea and try changing the "email" listed (@Mac.com are not always valid emails)

    Edit:

It appears I can change or in fact add Apple IDs  (Add one then delete the other depending which has "Caller ID"  showing (it's a new drop down on having multiple names) )

I have the same issue here. I tried everything suggested in this thread but nothing helps. If I roll bakc to IChat, it works great. Messages work great from my IPhone and Ipad, too. Interestingly FaceTime does not work on my Mac either, but it is just great on my IPhone and Ipad...

Most probably it is a bug with the beta and hope it will be eliminated by the time of the final release.

    HI moog5,

I looked at this again and saw you were listing an @mac.com name.

These are not always emails (Unless linked to a MobileMe account).

I got this error fairly quickly:-

    Messages
    Uploaded with Skitch!

This does seem odd on the one hand as the Names are valid for the AIM service.

On the other hand it does appear that Apple check if it is a valid email (And dismisses it if it is not).

I can also switch between the Apple ID that is linked to my iCloud Name and the iCloud Name itself.

    Hi Ralph

Thanks for the extra feedback. The thing is, that @mac.com address is both confirmed as my Apple ID, and is also a valid email address. I can receive emails on it interchangeably with my @me.com address; some contacts still have the @mac.com email address for me, some use the new @me.com address, and they both reach me. I can also still use it to log into my MobileMe account on the web, so it's still linked with that.

I also use the @mac.com email address / Apple ID to log into all iCloud services on iOS and on the web. In fact I also use it for those on my iMac as well, it's just Messages Beta which won't accept it.

It's valid and working for every service it's intended to be used for - MobileMe, iCloud, iTunes Store, Mac App Store, iPhone App Store and so on - with just this one exception. I'm stumped!

    Hi,

I did wonder if it was a linked account and that was why you were getting a different error.

All the ones I have were Trial Accounts at the time the .Mac service was running.

I never bothered with a MobileMe Trial account as they did not work in iChat once the trial had run out (And you had to manually cancel the Trial or get charged).

I have just checked the Apple ID site and the @mac.com I was testing just now.

Although it does not say Verified it is listed as the Primary email.  (it is not marked that I need to do anything to the account either)

If  I go to the same place but for the Apple ID I use to Post here with, I can sign in with the iCloud or the Original ID and both will show me the same page but will not list the iCloud ID (And I Cannot add it)

I presume it is similar with the @me.com and @mac.com IDs you have ?

I am wondering if this is the beginning of the writing on the wall for these IDs.  Most likely it is some sort of backend server link that has been missed (BUG).

For me, if I sign into the Apple ID page with my @mac.com address it lists the @mac.com address as the Apple ID and the primary email address. The @me.com address is shown as a verified alternate email address

If I sign in with the @me.com address it's still the same: the @mac.com address is shown as the Apple ID and primary email, and the @me.com address is a verified alternate email address.

They really do seem to be interchangeable. However I always stick to using the @mac.com address to sign into all my iCloud / MobileMe / App Store accounts, as that is the listed Apple ID.

Nevertheless trying the @mac.com and the @me.com one produces the same result in Messages Beta - just the spinning wheel. I don't even get the Failed to Verify Email error that's in your screenshot above. There simply doesn't seem to be any way around it...

    Hi,

Can you access ~/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist ?

This is done in the Finder > GO Menu and holding the ALT key to see the Library and then selecting Preferences.

This particular .plist holds the iMessasge name you are using. (or trying to store)

Restart Messages afterwards.  (it should ask you again for the name and the .plist should get recreated).

    Hi,

Were you using this ID in iChat 6.0.1 before upgrading to Messages ?

I have seen theprana's Time Zone settings be an issue for iChat.

It might be worth checking not only the Mac but the modem/router as well.

    Hi,

nop I not use before iChat. I have my new mac just 2nd day. But I dislike when something not works, so... spent near 6 hours for founding some way (in internet) for fix this problem.

It's defo not wifi, router, modem or Internet settings. But one guy wrote some information about host settings. Anyway time&date in preference help. Maybe it a millisecond correction or just a way to verify your ID...

    Hi!

I tried this one too. Indeed locations were not checked to update automatically but it did not solved the issue after allowing it in my case.

Again, server error at the launch when login while no problem in case of IPhone and IPad...

    Hi All

Sadly, I tried every single suggestion of this thread, but the wheel is still turning. Even more strange is it works just fine on my iPhone, and my Macbook, but on my desktop, nothing works - no Facetime, no Messages.

    Hi,

If you deleted the com.apple.imagent.plist and had no luck and you have also checked the Mac and the router are set to the same Date and Time (and Zone) then you should try adding a public DNS to System Preferences > Network

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are two run by Google.

There is some anecdotal evidence that some DNS servers from ISPs cannot find the particular servers Apple use for Face Time and iMessages.
