An application doesn't normally return anything, but you might be able to use the Run AppleScript action to include the script from your aplication.

There are two options I'd look into:
- rewrite your workflow so that it calls other workflows (using the Run Workflow action) rather than calling an app. It should naturally wait until the called worflows are complete before continuing to the next action.
- rewrite your Applescript app so that it calls the workflows, rather than the other way around. That would give you more flow control.
