To show your CD on desktop you have to select it under Finder preferences, general table.
Without the icon on desktop you should be able to eject the disc with the related key: does it work ?

Classic Mac OSI ran into this problem yesterday. CD in drive, but not on desktop. I concluded that the CD was bad.
You can hold down the left mouse button then power on your machine. The cd will eventually eject.
There is an eject option in disk utiltiy.

May 23, 2014 12:41 PM in response to rccharlesby vaguespace,I had the same issue. The CD icon didn't show until I opened Disk Utility. I was able to download the files from the disc and eject OK. Thanks for pointing out the DU option.
