I have to agree with vazandrew in that it's a combination of the ATV2 firmware and some servers but I believe it's apple that has to correct the problem. All my other apple devices have no problems with Netflix... only my ATV2 has had issues.  I was able to correct the problem with a manual DNS server configuration.  I only had to do that after the most recent ATV2 updates.  So hopefully Apple is working on the issue.

Update - I took my ATV into the local Apple store and spoke with a Genius about this issue and what I've done to try and resolve the problem (everything listed in this thread that I've tried).  He said he thought I went "above and beyond" in trying to correct this issue and he felt that my ATV was defective and gave me a new one.

I'm going to hook it up tonight and I'll report back if I see a difference.  Stay tuned...

Anyone know how to back rev the ATV2? I wasn't having these lags in streaming with my older version. I'm currently running 4.4.4(3330).

Let's face it folks, this has been going on since October of 2010. Apple clearly doesn't care. It's a $100 product, it works for most things relatively well, they probably have a new product coming out soon, and this one just doesn't matter any more. Drink the Koolaid and wait. All will be well!,

The way I got it to work was by turning off the Dolby Digital option in the ATV menu.  It's a temporary fix, but it does the job.

I have Dolby Digital turned off and I still get constant pausing/buffering.

I've had the ATV replacement for about a week now so here's the update so far....  When I hooked it up I did all of the set up automatically (network, etc).  I had the latest software installed on it so I didn't need to do a download.  I put on Netflix and had a couple of short pauses when watching an HD movie.  The pauses were shorter than the ones I had before that seemed to last for 30 seconds or so.  At that point I changed the DNS setting to .008.008.004.004 (as suggested in this thread) and haven't had a problem since.

So it's possible my ATV was bad, but before you bring it back to the Apple store, make sure to try changing your DNS first.  it may solve the problem....  Again, I've only had it for a week with limited use, but thus far it seems to be working.  Good luck!

Broke down and got a competitor's device today. I've had none of the issues I'd been having with the ATV. The new device works flawlessly. Caveat emptor.

I turned off Dolby Digital and actually have not had any buffering occur during evening viewing since.  Soon I will turn it back on and see if the problem happens again.  Until then I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not.

I'm an Apple fan for 30 years, Verizon FiOs user for about 5 years, Netflix for two. Love 'em all, but the combination of Apple TV, FiOs and Netflix for the past month has been atrocious. Everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else. Extreme latency, pauses on every movie or TV show or "Cannot connect to Netflix. Try again later."

P L E A S E help me understand who's at fault for the horrible Netflix latency over Apple TV. I want to cancel whatever service is at fault, and if it's Apple TV, pound the thing to powder with a Louisville Slugger.

Likely a combination but not everyone is experiencing it

True. I have my suspicions it's ATV. Same network/routers at home using the computer or Xbox to stream have no problems. What's the variable? ATV.

But thousands of disgruntled ATV users won't push Apple to do anything soon. We've got to raise **** with Netflix and have them twist Apple's arm. Without Netflix, the ATV is lame.  A few thousand people threatening Netflix with cancellation may get them to make a call to Cupertino.

I've been a ATV owner since Day 1. It was great while Steve was alive and without the last update. I'm just sayin...

That doesn't rule out Netflix. It has to do with some servers and implementation with ATV in certain areas and both companies would need to work together to solve it.

After a year trying to fix this issue, I've unplugged my apple tv and gone to roku.  apple tv works fine for me for everything except netflix.  roku works fine for me with everything.
