I've been having an issue with ichat for the past few weeks. I'm on Lion and the ichat text box doesn't automatically expand when I type, instead it's static and overlaps my messages.

Please tell me somebody has a fix, it's incredibly annoying!

    HI,

How close is the bottom of the text Chat window, including the text entry field, to the bottom of the Screen or the DOCK ?

It is a long time since I have seen that issue and not at all so far in Lion/iChat 6

If the issues does not seem to relate to the place it is on the screen then I would go to the Finder > Go Menu and Hold the ALT key down

Then select the Library item that appears and navigate to the Preferences folder .

This is the Hard Driver/USers/(YourAccountName)/Library or the Home Folder Library which is Invisible in Lion.

Once in the Preferences find the com.apple.ichat.plist and drag it and the .lockfile of the same name to the Trash.

    Restart iChat.

    HI,

Are you using a Font that is taller than that box would be  (or a Font Size that is Bigger) ?

The Pic shows no text and I could see something like "Marker Felt" that is larger than most Fonts and the text box may be trying to indicate this.

This idea is on the Fuzzy Logic side of things.

I am sure that there is something else going on but cannot think what it might be.

    Hi,

    Marker Felt is a Font.

It one that tends to display in larger point sizes that others

    Font Book
    Uploaded with Skitch!

I was wondering if you had chosen something like this that was "taller" than the Box (text Filed) and the Normal size for text.

Also in your original pic the Style you are using appears to be Compact ? or Text ?  (View Menu > Messages when Text chat is the Front window)

Does this change if you opt to use Balloons or anything other than what you have set now ?

(I am suggesting changing it then changing it back if it does make a difference and seeing if that is permanent)

    HI,

    I have nothing else.

I presume you have cleared the Font Caches ?
