Unless we know more about the source material, it's hard to say.
Can you play the clips in QuickTime Player? If that fails, too, they might really be incompatible with your software. You could try converting them with MPEG Streamclip, which might or might not work.
Maybe you should also ask in the Final Cut Studio/Final Cut Pro category. This is for Final Cut Express HD, which is related, but still a different program.

You might not answer this, but I am still going to post. The videos we shot with a Sony A77 and a Sony EX1, I am not sure if that is what you meant when you asked more information about the source material.

If those are the cameras that produced the footage, you should have AVCHD and XDCAM files, not HDV. How did the HDV get into the mix?
I also agree with Bernd's point that you're in the wrong forum and will get better answers if you re-post this in the Final Cut Studio discussions.
