Push email does not work (iCloud)

    If you read this thread and have the same issue go to apple.com/feedback and send them something.  Do it everyday.  Absurdity.

    Months ago I had some minor issues. The easy solution was to restart the device and push was working again.

     

    Some weeks ago the major issues startet. Push was not working anymore. I tried the workaround described earlier and it worked again.

     

    Then Google/Motorola forced Apple to shut down the push service here in Germany. So no push any more.

     

    But now I see a very interesting behaviour: Some eMails were pushed, some not. Email notifications from Apple support communities and from Youtube are always pushed, while personal eMails are never pushed.

     

    Has anybody else had the same observation?

    Something that has helped me and I have seen another user do is pretty simple until a fix comes.

     

    When you open your mail app and then close it, hit the home button twice and close the app in the background. If you've never done this tap the app until it wiggles then a minus button will appear. Tap on the minus button. Hit the home button once and you are done.

     

    Now have someone send you and e-mail from another client (yahoo, gmail, Hotmail, etc). This has worked for me since the problem occurred.

     

    It's an inconvenience but this is the only way it seems to work for now. Hoping software 5.1 will fix this issue?

    iOS 5.1 does not fix the problem.  In fact, it wasn't even addressed in the list of bug fixes.

     

    I think I speak for all of us when I say, we do not want a crazy 12-step temp fix to this problem.  We want it to work like MobileMe worked...plain and simple.  We want to receive an email, as promised, in a timely consistent manner, not as a fetch.  Apple is either:

     

    1) Ignoring this issue (this thread is 30 pages long and 6 months old).

    2) Has no idea *** to do.

    3) Is working on it furiously as we speak.

     

    I hope it's #3!

    Not sure if this has been raised here before - had mail push problem too - then went into mail settings; there are TWO push buttons to activate, one on the 'fetch' schedule page, another further on under 'advanced'.  Works for me now.

    As the moderators have posted before, they are not tech agents, they do not provide troubleshooting. They are only reading comments to ensure that posts are following the Terms of Use. From previous posts here, some that have been pulled and others that still remain, Apple knows about it. The problem has been reported and someone is looking into it. Not as fast as we may wish it were, but they seem to be working on it.

    In My personal experience, I am migrating for a mobile me account to icluod, I use to have a Family Pack, what I notice is that my son and my wife accounts that are now migrated from mobile me to free Icloud accounts, works fine and push is working fine in my sons 3G iPad and my wife iPhone 4, both with IOS 5.1, in my case, my iCloud account is the migration for my mobile me premium account and have 20 Gb of storage, and pushing is not working as it should, I have try a lot of the fixes posted here, and the only one that seems to work is that somehow the mail app running in the background frezes and push is stop working, if you check your email, and when you close the mail app in the iPhone, also close it in the background, push seems to work pretty fine, also, it seems that push works pretty well if you are in a Wi-Fi Network, having more issues on 3G only network... I hope also that apple is doing something about it... it's not reasonable that mobile me users that already paid for a service doesn't have it anymore... I think there is a bug in the IOS 5.x with 3G Networks specially in the iPhone... my 2 cents is probbably this get solved when mobile me subscripions end in June and there is only free and plus iCloud, Actually if apple wants to sell iCloud as a Plus Service, they need to solve this...

    Here's my update:

     

    The tech I've been working with asked me to install a diagnostic program on my device (iPhone) to collect the logs.  Before I installed this diagnostic, I updated my phone to the iOS 5.1.

     

    I don't want to speak to soon, but ever since I updated to 5.1, my phone has been working perfectly.  It has been 24 hours.  Usually push does not last this long, so I am crossing my fingers that it will continue.

     

    Something that is noticeably improved is when the phone switches from WiFi to 3G, and vice-versa.  Prior to the update, I thought I had noticed that whenever the phone would switch to/from WiFi and 3G, this was when the Push would go wonky and stop. 

     

    Has anyone else noticed improvement since updating to 5.1?

    Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like the problem mostly affects those of us who've migrated from a 'paid' MobileMe account over to iCloud.  The 'free' new iCloud accounts seem to be, for the most part, okay.  Which certainly makes it even more frustrating but might be part of the puzzle?

    Not sure if there's a way to cancel a current account and restart as a new iCloud account with the same username...

    Just FYI - As part of all the testing I've gone through with an Apple tech, I did create a new iCloud test account.  This did not solve the problem (for me).  The new test account also stopped pushing.

    Ahhh, thanks.  Good to know.  It's truly odd how they've dragged their feet on this issue.  It's so unlike the APPLE that I know and love.

    Still hoping Macrumors and the other popular blogs post an article about the issue.  So far, it's just posts in their forums.  If they do a piece on it, it might get addressed a bit quicker.

    Everything else in iCloud works for me except for mail PUSHing.

    In my experience with Apple, they very rarely publicly acknowledge a bug. They put their heads down and try to fix it. Sometimes fixing the bug can take a long time, other times the fix comes out faster. In this case, it is taking quite a long time.

     

    The workarounds that are successful for people are great. For people like me, when they don't work, it can be frustrating, but I'm condient Apple will find a solution. Let's hope so anyway!

    Ever since I upgraded to 5.1 my Microsoft Exchange Push notifications have stopped working altogether on both my iphone and ipad.  No work arounds have fixed this since Friday.  Upsetting.

     

    I have tried to turn WiFi off, made sure Push is turned on in both main setting and advanced and all other work arounds.  Nothing.  Frustrating.
