In order to get full access you need an account on the remote machine otherwise you are treated as having guest access that only allows you to see the Shared folder on the remote machine.
The folders or drives on the remote must also be shared in order to access them.

The guy there gave her Snow Leopard for free (an upgrade from Tiger at the time I think) and she's wondering if he might have changed the password. Oh what to do ...
