GO HERE - there's TONS of talk about this very problem...
So far, there is no resolution from Apple.
If you were to even google:
iPad 2 crashes
iPad 2 safari crashes
safari crashes reularly
iPad 2 crashes
You will find that MANY iPad owners are experiencing this problem after the last OS update 5.0.1.

I don't remember exactly when this problem started but I have the same with my iPad first generation. In my case not only safary but also other application like mail.., and it is desperately frequent. What could I do? Many of us seem to have the same problem. If someone at Apple is watching our reports they should do something to solve this trouble.

Well I have the last update and I have tried all other advices but the problem continues.
Each time I open safari (or sometimes other app.)the problem is there: it quits suddenly...

I am not a techi - and purchased the ipad as I travel extensively. The perfect travel computer. Unfortunately, since the upgarde to IOS 5 and /or taking more than 50% storage my ipad now crashes daily. This is exceptionally frustrating and I can see i will have to revert back to the sturdy laptop.
I am also surprised that Apple don't seem to be overly concerned. As i am new to apple - is this normal??

Did you follow the standard troubleshooting procedures outlined in the user manual?
Start with Resetting your device:
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).

Safari was stable in IOS 6 in my iPad mini, then I (stoopidly) "upgraded" to IOS 7 - safari has crashed ever since - now in 7.0.3. If only I had not "upgraded". I cannot go back to IOS 6, or I would - I could not back-up my iPad, as my G4 eMac will not do that! Ugh and woe is me. Apple - please solve this!

Yet it's not just the latest update to Safari. One of my websites crashes every version of iPad I have tried, just by pinch zoom on the home page: http://obviously.com/

Tested your link. Yes, the site crashes Safari on pinch-to-zoom-in. But it crashes other iOS web browsers, too (iCab Mobile, etc).
That usually means there's something wrong with the site coding. Let the site's webmaster know.
