Open iTunes. Connect the iPhone. Select it under the Devices heading in the iTunes sidebar. Click on the Info tab in the main window. Check the Contacts box then sync.

If you enable iCloud on the computer and iPhone, the address book should sync together.

not really. I have it on on all my 4 devices 91 laptop, 1 desktop, 1 iPad and 1 iPhone and my contacts and calendars were not being sync seamslessly. Can not rely on it.

Don't understand that. I sync calendars, contacts and bookmarks and it works great. Very reliable.
But if you don't trust or use iCloud, follow Kappy's suggestion in his post.
