Q: iPhone 4S "no service" problem

hello all,

Just got my iPhone 4S 18hrs ago and it wen to "no service" like 3 times (so far)!!

  • I have changed carrier setting to manual I can select my network but still "no service"
  • I turned on then off "airplane mode" it goes searching... then "no service"
  • it only work when I restart or reinsert the SIM

Is this common? do I have to worry ?

Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks,

Abdullah

I too had the same problem till I contacted my carrier and they told me to do the following and since then I have had no network issues maybe it will fix the problem just follow the instructions

On your iPhone go to settings>location services>system services>. Make sure call network search, compass calibration setting time zone and status bar icon is ALL in the on position after that go back to your settings and click on general>network and make sure cellular data, voice roaming, and data roaming are switched to on after that you shouldn't have problems with no service or searching for service issues it also helps if you are connected to wifi so it's easier for the iPhone to find the signal and won't have problems

I have done that and I had the issue yesterday. Is the real solution going to carrier and ask for a duplicated 128K SIM???

What a ****!!!! I have gone 4 times to Orange for now!!!!!

Not unless it's reported but it doesn't matter exude most of what I'm saying about the pre release stuff is all I've the news and google they can't really do anything and about the issue ya maybe you can try that or you might just have a defective iPhone

Interesting that he said " he had not heard of either problem...."  then stated "5.0.1, he said that update was made to improve battery life; and reportedly it worked for some and not others." and " He said another update is planned to further address the battery issue. "

So if he never heard of a battery issue why would he make the other two statements? Hmmmmm

I was at the 'genius bar'  in south Florida yesterday after a 45 minute wait. I had five bar service and could not duplicate the problem. I also complained of short battery life. The tech said he had not heard of either problem....but he also went to settings and had me 'send reports to Apple'. Then he did some more buttons which I could not see. When I told him this all happend after 5.0.1, he said that update was made to improve battery life; and reportedly it worked for some and not others. I also asked why I had five bars deep inside a crouwed shopping center and he admitted they have an internet repeater cell in the store. He did offer to replace my phone, but said it might take a couple of weeks to send it in and get the new one back. He said another update is planned to further address the battery issue. I don't know what he did (if anything) but have not had 'no signal' problem for 24 hours. I stiil have a battery life issue.

I read on another post that reducing the polloing interval to the network can improve battery life. Maybe the 5.0.1 'fix' reduced the interval and some networks lose signal when the are not polled often enough. I have ATT; and maybe they are seeing the problem and have addressed it. Their biggest base and selling point is the iPhone.

Not sure this helps anybody.... but it is additional information

well ive spoke with apple today, first point of call is get replacement simm ordered and try that ... with no back up! SO new simm, no backup.. see how that fairs.. then its back up to cloud and import it from there, try that.. im wondering how this will work, as the only way i got this problem of no service to fix was to use a bumper case from my iphone 4 days, yes i had a iphone 4 with bad signal issue too, infact i had a few iphone 4's with signal issues.. i just with they would spend more time with r&d before releasing these units to us the general public to do the r&d for them... not on when you pay £699 for a phone that doesnt work as it should !!!

yet as lemmings we all are, we will all que to buy the iphone 5... its a cult thing !!!!!

    Marty,

Please only speak for yourself. I see that old saying fitting here " Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me."

I was an iPhone 4S user. I had "No Service" message, I had battery issues, I had settings turning themselves back on, I had Safari cache issues, etc.

I don't have those issues anymore. I don't have an iPhone anymore. I will not own another Apple product. All I ever wanted was a reliable phone. iPhone was not that, and Apple's cavalier attitude about their crappy product has made me turn my back on them. Just as they have turned there back on supporting their customers and products.

I don't think it will get any better in the future and I am not a fool!!

Same here.  My problem started without any updates and my phone has been fine for a few months.  5.1 hasn't helped either.

I have had No Service, or a flate line.............. and the name of a local carrier for all but a few hours one day and a few minutes another day since arriving in Jharkhand, India on the 13th of February -- strangly enough in other locations in India service was perfect! I am with Orange and they are not being real because I have to come to these forums to n to understand ths happening to so many customers. I am out time and money due to this problem. My phone is essential to me.

I had immense difficulty with the update, finally I switched from trying to use my laptop with a wireless connection running windows 7 to a PC running XP with and ethernet connection. Finally I was able to download the update completely -- on my laptop I had tryed umpteen times with no success. I was then able to update my phone to 5.1 and some time later, yes I was perfectly connected to a local provider. I am now able to select between 2 local providers IDEA and AIRTEL IND. Checking yesterday, there was no service with RELIANCE, CELLONE, VODAPHONE, TATA etc.

So, now, whether for the update, or because ORANGE technicians (at least should have been) were working on my problem, my issue is resolved.

    Angry as ****
