Q: Logic 9 Freezes on Screen Splash when "checking MIDI Drivers." I need Help.

Everytime I open Logic It does not open. It freezes On Screen Splash when checking MIDI drivers.

I tried Putting it in a new folder outside of its folder. I do not know what else to do. I put everything Back in it's place but still nothing. My computer checked it self for viruses then after that it opened on its own successfully. Once open it said the MIDI driver is updated and I should restart so I did, But the problem persist so I am looking for an Update. I need some help, If you know the problem I would really appreciate it.

Mac OS X (10.7.3)

What custom MIDI driver do you have installed? Something from Digidesign/Avid? There was a compatibility issue in their older drivers with 10.7.

Hello! I have the same problem, but with a twist. Protools works on the same MBP, using the built-in Apple MIDI stuff, and the a usb keyboard.

Could it be, that AVID and APPLE are not "playing" well together?

I don't think it has anything to do with "playing well together", it seemed a simple bug in the Avid MIDI driver.

Sorry! What I meant was, that Logic freezes when checking MIDI drivers, but PT works smoothly, on the same MBP. I was wondering if PT had somehow "moved in and taken over".

Nobody seems to have any ideas. Hmm Maybe I'll try re-installimg Logic.

    Hi

Not likely to help.... the problem is most likely with the Avid/Digi drivers, so all you should need to do is remove them.

Where do I find them? Would ProTools still work?

    Very similar problem!!

I recently switched from an imac running os x snow leopard to a newer one running lion. I use protools Le 8.0.4 with an avid mbox, gen 003. This combo always worked great under snow leopard. I installed it in lion and it also works like a charm, except i just bought logic pro 9 from app store, and it seems to get stuck in "checking midi drivers" at startup.

I looked at several previous posts like this one, and found the solution was to delete the old digidesign midi drivers from the library>audio>midi drivers folders, which i did and now logic is apparently working fine. Problem is, obviously protools doesn't work now. So it's either one or the other with this solution. There are 4 plugin files in this folder: digidesignfirewiremidi.plugin, avid mbox promidi.plugin, digidesignmbox2midi.plugin, digidiomididriver.plugin.

Am i going to have to keep deleting/restoring these files from the midi drivers folder whenever i wanna switch from logic to protools in the future?? Is it safe to keep doing this long term, or is there another solution i haven't found?

Also, does anyone out there know if it would be helpful to upgrade to protools 8.0.5? Or would i just be asking for more trouble?

    Thanks in advance...

This is a terrible problem. It seems like a such a simple bug that has just not been fixed. I had this same problem over year ago which rendered my digi 002 (or Logic 9) useless. I'm running Lion and I installed the most recent update over a year and half later. Still not fixed. Extremely dissapointed with somebody. Shame on you.

    I'VE SOLVED IT!!!!

******** thought they could stop me

    Remove

DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin from Library -> Audio -> Midi Drivers

    DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin is evil.

    Hi

Yep... should be "Shame on AVID" for not supplying drivers that work?

I removed all of my MIDI plugins from the library folder and it still gets stuck on the splash screen.
