Hi i am facing the same issue. When i called up Apple tech support, first executive told me it is normal no issues but when i called up the second time then i was told if your phone not getting warm on wi-fi then thre is a problem but rostron71's comment is some what convicing. I would like to believe in rostron.

i have used an iPhone 4 for almost 8 months and i didnt have any issues in battery life and heating issues when 3G on however im having a lot of difficulty with the 3G and heating problem with my new iPhone 4S.....
im very much looking forward for the update but wanted to see the result first and then update.
lets see how this goes on!!

How u were using your iPhone 4 ? with cover or without cover
If not then u are saying your iphone 4 was not even getting warm on the right hand side ( screen facing towards face ) when on 3g
