Hi i got this mac air as an open item

Hi i got this mac air as an open item and i can't update my iPhoto or reiinstal removed apps i get this msg "These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that....." how do i remove the old user of this i mac and replace it with my name. i have reved his name form all the places that i can like name of comuter, his old email, renamed the comuter. but this computer is still connected to him. what can i do to remove hi name so i can use this computer and the apps that came with it. mainly Ilife apps.

    I'm sure you will get some more expert help than my suggestion, but if it were me and I didn't want to wait for further help, I would boot the computer holding down the Command key along with the R key.  That should lead you into the reinstall area.  The first thing I would then do would be to erase the hard drive.  You can either do a simple erase or a 3 pass/7 pass erase.  Note that the latter two can take some time.  Then I would reinstall OS X.  You didn't mention which version you have.  If it's Lion, you will need to be hooked up to the internet.

     

    If it's one of the previous versions I think there should be a USB stick with the OS X installation software.

    On balance, Macaby's advice is sound, not just so that you can gain control of the MBA's registration, but also because in doing the reformat and reinstall you will be wiping all traces of the prior user, including any problematic files, cookies, dubious applications, bad preference files, software registrations and a host of other potential problems.

     

    For those simply wanting to ensure that their system is correctly registered with Apple, it is possible to do this at https://register.apple.com/ This should result in the same record as registering the product during set up, but it may well not reset ownership of apps downloaded from the App store.

    I haven't looked at the App Store community discussions to see what others are saying about these kind of issues, but the problem you seem to be suffering isn't normal in any sense. There may be a discrapancy between the account ID you have for registering the MBA, and your App Store ID. Certainly in my case, once I'd registered my MBA after purchase, I've been able to update th iLife apps without the errors you are seeing on your system.

     

    I would suggest you visit http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact.html?form=account&topic=Mac%2 0App%20Store%20Account%20and%20Billing which will allow you to contactAccount and Billing support for the App store. They should be able to help you - or at least point you in the right direction.

     

    Meanwhile, if I see references to other users with this problem, and any solution found, I'll post back here in this thread.

     

    [ON EDIT]: The thread at https://discussions.apple.com/message/17851357#17851357 would suggest that you are no alone with this issue, but that with the help of App store support, it can be resolved....even if not readily.
