Q: Mac mini Mid 2011 handshake issue via HDMI

Hi there,

I'm using the new Mac mini via HDMI together with my Sony Bravia KDL46W4000 and every 20-30 minutes I experienced an "inverted" screen for a few frames (color is mostly green and purple). After a few seconds the movie runs perfectly again until this problem occurs again.

I found a lot of discussion on this topic with AppleTVs, but unfortunately I have this issue with my new MacMini.

Does anybody have a workaround with the HDMI-cable?

Next weekend I will try to use the Thunderbolt-Output with a MiniDP-DVI Adapter and a DVI-HDMI-cable (the configuration I used with my Early2011 MacBook Pro without any issues before).

Thanks for your support!

Just FYI, there exists a mini dp to hdmi adapter dongle <$7 at monoprice. Could be inexpensive if you need it and avoids using up your mini dp to dvi cable from your MBP if that is important.

But by all means a good idea to try. Hopefully it works better. From the looks of the online communities, quite a number of people are experiencing graphic issues with Lion. Hopefully Apple engineers are making overtime.

If you buy an adapter do this asap because HDMI has filled a complaint that makes selling thos kind of cable illegal for patent reason. Your issue could be the cable, have you tried with another type of cable ? Like HDMI 1.4 ?

I have precisely the same problem with my new Mac Mini and my Philips TV connectet with HDMI, strange colours that comes and goes, very annoying. Tried with several HDMI cables and a mini displayport to HDMI adaptor but same problem. Seems like people with Apple TV have exactly the same problems. Heard that several has the same problem with Samsung TV´s also. Send the mini to service twice without any luck. Does anyone have a solution ?....please

I have the same problem with my Philips TV 32'' and absolutely the same issue with iPad connected to another HDMI port.

I tried to change HDMI ports and cable without any results.

Surprisingly It works well when I connect it to my neighbor's Sony TV 42"

I found this instructions where recommends to turn off some postprocessing (Minimize video post-processing):

I didn't check by myself but maybe It will help someone

As I have the same issue here (Mac mini 2011 & Philips 37PFL8404), I tried this but it didn't change anything. Sometimes the color inversion will flip back automatically, but the next time it stays purple/green as before. I changed cables and display settings (resolution, etc) > no effect.

Now I updated the tv's firmware to the latest version and will do a next test this weekend.

    I've tried with no success.

It happens spontaneously with no logic.
