Updated to 5.0 and now TV shows are out of order

    I'm a bit confused now.

You say that you don't think that they are displayed in order of date added, but they are in order that they feature in the xml file. Is that correct?

I've just had a look through my xml file, and the order they display there seems to be the order that they were added, so I don't see how it can be one but not the other.

Does the order in the xml file not go along with date added, or am I missing something?

Guys, seriously, is there any reason at all to be talking about the xml file, or in what order each AND EVERYONE is looking at their tons of TV shows????

Please fogrive my tone, but I got tens of e-mails since I substribed to this post, and Jesus, there are 6 pages for this thread and out of all this there are only 2 or 3 useful replies!!!

The only really useful info I got is that it is iTunes' fault, or the new update's to be precise. Now other than wait for the next update, is there any useful suggestion other than poking on the xml file, or spend hours doing something that may or may not work?

    Cheers...

There is an option on the right to stop email notifications.

I'm exploring this because I'm interested, an also I have been advocating the possibility of deleting and re-adding files to get them in order. It worked for me but may not for others if it doesn't actually sort by date added.

I am very capable of reading my screen, thanks for the suggestion, but then again I won' t be notified for a proper solution that concerns me, and thousands of others who read this post, if any actually comes up.

You are missing the point. All I am saying is, concidering you are right in any of your methods, are you actually suggesting that all (I'm guessing all) the AppleTV owners start correcting their xml files, in order to fix this?? Or delete and re-enter all the files from scratch?

Are all those concidered solutions, or is it just me?

Or, why not start a new thread on troubleshooting this?

If you come up with a solution please post back here.  I wish I could just get a single, daily email notification on this but I don't see that option.  It is all or nothing.

  • KeithJenner Level 4 Level 4 (1,020 points)

No, I am not suggesting that all Apple TV users do anything at all. However, some people may benefit from a temporary solution. The fact that I and my family have been using out ATV's with our TV shows is an indication that it may be a benefit.

My solution does however rely on the shows being sorted in order that they were added, so if that isn't actually the case then it is useful information.

I apologise if you took offence at me pointing out about the unsubscribe option. As you mentioned that the quantity of mails was a problem to you, I thought that maybe you weren't aware of it, as I would have just clicked that rather than writing a message.

Anyway, you and a few other people have adequately proved that spending time on these forums trying to help people is really not worth the effort. As my attempts to help seem to upset some of you so much so much I think will just quietly withdraw for now. I'll just go and watch my ATV with the TV shows in the correct order and if I have any more suggestions then I won't trouble you with them.

Fairly unlikely I'd bother to be honest.

Jason - not a bad idea...Actually, still not sure WHY ATV2 would start doing this on iTunes 10.6 unless the upgrade changes the XML file.

FigureHead: I apologize to the forum for posting so many times. There were several early posts that were trying to nail down the problem. One had spent time with AppleCare, and posted his findings. I was just hoping to do the same and thought I was really close

Does Apple read these? Don't know. However, if my contribution helps their guys in any way, then I'm happy to do so.

I do NOT suggest we start editing our XML files. If you want a quick fix, KJ offered one that he spent his time testing. I suggest that Apple fix the problem.

Have a great day (or evening)!

What I found implies to me that it's not just when they were added, but the FIRST time a series/season appears.

A search of MY XML file for "<key>TV Show</key>" shows Jericho, Pilot as my first TV episode. It's first in my list.

NEXT tv show EPISODE - not the entire season - is a single episode I recorded on TV, Handbraked and imported to iTunes. But because of this, ALL OTHER EPISODES for that season are in there, although I didn't handbrake and add them until much, much later.

Next came Caprica, etc. All these follow the pattern, I think.

    And... now I'm done...

    Yes, I see that. Thanks.

It probably comes over like I'm over-reacting, which I may be, but these boards have really become quite unpleasant in places in the last couple of days. In the last couple of days I have had three separate instances where people's replies have been quite unpleasant.

Maybe it's something about the way I've posted stuff in the last few days, or maybe this particular issue if particularly getting to people, but to be honest I've got better things to do with my time than try to help people some of the people we've had on here lately.

Hope evertyone gets it sorted soon anyway. Cheers.

I think you've been very patient - especially with me as the "yippy little dog" that I've been on here today. I wasn't frustrated in any way. My "CAPS" were for emphasis only, so - just in case - if my "I'm done" seemed snippy, wasn't mean't that way. Just was expecting to be done and away from the computer!

    Have a great one!

I went to radar.apple.com and filled out a bug report with all the info I have.

Hopefully - that will help them get moving. Think I've bored you guys just about as MUCH as I can!!!

  • The Figurehead Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Keith you're still missing the point...

My comments are not addressed to you or anyone else in personal level, and as I wrote before, please forgive my tone. So there is no need for apologies from anyone and I am not accusing anyone of anything, nor am I angry at anyone, I have a smile on my face as I type these very words.

I am using Apple products for more than 15 years, and this forum has been a savior on countless occasions, YES THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU, who offered their trial and error opinions, to help. All I am trying to say is that our friend "Easybourne" posted a thread for a problem and 6 pages followed. Have we helped him after all those comments? Back in the "old days" after 3 replies you either had a solution or not, and that was it.

All I want to say is type something useful. That's it. If you want to stop on my behalf, then accept my apologies instead and I quote again that I had no intention to offend you. And in order to put my words into action, this is the last comment I post, unless I find out something helpful.

    Cheers and goodnight!

The Figurehead, you probably got the brunt of it, for which I apologise. I probably took the tone of your post when you said about being able to read the screen wrongly.

Unlike others, you didn't call me a Moron, or all of us that try to help pathetic, which has happened in the last couple of days.

I apologise if I over-reacted on this thread, which I suspect that I did, but the fact is that there have been quite a few people on here lately that have overall made me decide that it just isn't worth the effort.
