Q: Cannot connect to network error in iTunes 10.6

I just updated iTunes to 10.6 in order to download the ios 5.1 update for iphone. I am getting the error - "Problems downloading the software for iphone. Cannot connect to network." I can use the internet fine. I disabled security and firewall. ITunes diagnostic shows all connections are made. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is a comment I posted earlier today.  For what it's worth, I tried the same thing as you stated in your message.....No luck for me either.  I am really dissapointed in Apple.  Especially the lack of support.  It is frustrating because you have to start all over with a technician when you call Apple support.  I have spent a total of 18 hours over the past few days trying to resolve the connectivity issues with iTunes. I keep being shuffled around.  No accountability unfortunately at Apple.

Problems with connectivity in iTunes 10.6.0.40

Hmmmm... The previous version of iTunes worked just fine.  Everything else on my computer (Windows 7) works just fine.  Internet works great.... I would like to make a recommendation to Apple management..... Search Google and see all of the folks complaining about the 10.6 upgrade....  I encourage everyone to post their comments on Apples discussion boards.... Strength in numbers

Fyi.... Android market place is working perfect

I have been very disappointed in apple too and have gotten the run around from them. I can receive help from them for a fee which is absurd, but I guess that is one of the ways they make money. I received more help from my internet provider and security program than I did with apple. We along with some of our friends are looking at switching over to something else. They are having the same issues. I appreciate your response and will certainly pass it along.

    Close your iTunes,

    Go to command Prompt -

(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".

    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in

    netsh winsock reset

    Hit "ENTER" key

    Restart your computer.

If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.

Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I personally have never had an issue with downloading updates to a device via wifi.  My issue is with the Windows  7 version of iTunes rev 10.6.  I had previously completed the steps in Wiclee's suggestion.  This did not resolve my connectivity problem.  When I refer to connectivity, I am specifically referring to Windows 7 version of iTunes 10.6.0.40

I went a step further and disabled the windows firewall, and totally removed Norton 360. This left my system very vulnerable, but I did so in hopes of finding the root cause of the problem. No matter what I try, I cannot connect to the iTunes secure store link. If I run the network connectivity diagnostic under the help menu, the secure link to iTunes store fails. I believe this is the source of the issue. I am perplexed based on the fact that the only change to my system was the update to iTunes 10.6. I wish I had the old version 10.5 back because it worked.

Suffice to say, if the Apple Senior Technician folks cant figure out the problem, then my only hope is to wait for the next release of iTunes and try again. For now, I have removed iTunes 10.6 and purged my Windows 7 system of all apple software. Everything continues to work perfect (all software programs) on my system. The absolute only problem I had was with iTunes 10.6.

It is worth noting that I made multiple phone call attempts to Apple and spoke with several senior technicians. All of which said they would call me back after speaking with the software engineers. I am still waiting. No one from Apple has tried to call me, or send me an e-mail.

Note 1 - I decided to install the previous version of iTunes (10.5.3.3).  I guess my curiosity got the best of me... Guess what?   Everything works perfect with this version of iTunes (10.5.3.3).  No problems or issues.

Note 2 - For the heck of it,  I did the upgrade to iTunes version 10.6 from version 10.5.3.3. just to see what would happen. Now I have the same connectivity issues.   The secure link to iTunes store fails, error 0x80092013 issues etc...

Note 3 - removed iTunes 10.6 and reinstalled version 10.5.3.3.  (You have to make sure to restore the previous iTunes library)... Guess what... iTunes 10.5.3.3.works fine for me on Windows 7.

Everyone,  Apple will not admit it, but there are multiple problems with iTunes 10.6.  If you are using a windows 7 OS, I highly recommend skipping version 10.6 and wait for the next release of iTunes.  Please do not waste your time calling Apple support.  They will not help you.  You will spend hours on the phone with "Senior" tech's,  who will try to help, but ultimately will not fix anything. This is a software engineering issue with version 10.6.

It sure would be nice if Apple owned up to their errors.

I too am having these problems and have tried every suggestion provided by Apple Support, reinstalled iTunes 10.6, Windows 7 etc and it's driving me crazy!!

I never realised how important my music & being able to readily access new music is to me!! lol

Apple must be losing a LOT of money over this issue.

Anyway ... wanting to re-install iTunes 10.5.3.3 - where can I download a safe copy from?

Have just tried Googling & am coming up with a lot of 'dangerous' files which my system really doesnt like!!'

    Cheers

Thank you wiclee, I have been trying to find a fix to the connectivity problem since I updated iTunes in May 2011 and now a year later after searching forums, going to the apple store in town and talking to friends I finally found someone who has an answer, and all I needed was a simple command prompt reboot.
