Q: How do i access my sdcard through x11?

Hi,

I am trying to make partition using X11. From the internet, i have found out that the command "fdisk -l" is used to list out the sd card directory but the command is not available in the x11.

Can anybody help on this matter?

Regards,

Nicky

This is the MacBook pro hardware forum. You might want to peruse the list of forums in this venue to see which one would be more appropriate for your issue.

While fdisk -l will list the partition information for a device, you have to tell it what device.

In X11 type (without quotes) "man fdisk"

Ordinarily to see the current partition scheme on a mounted device, it would be something like "fdisk -l /Volumes/device_name"

Honestly, do not just mess around with fdisk unless you know exactly what you are doing, and are sure the changes you are making are being applied to the device and volume you actually want to change.

Your mounted devices will be in /Volumes which is normally a hidden directory in the Finder.  Depending on the permissions of the particular device, you will likely also need to be root to change anything with fdisk (hence the need to know exactly what you want to do and precisely how to do it with that tool).

    Hi,

I have tried to use the "man fdisk" but it does not show any option such "-l" too.

That is why it come out error message.

Can you give an example on how to access the sd card?

I just plug in my SD Card and I just want to find my directory for the sdcard.

After that, I would like to make partition and copy some of the image files for the embedded linux using x11.

I know that the fdisk is very high risk command that could erase my harddisk.

That is why I need to specific find my sd card so that I won't erase anything which is not relevant.

As you said, it is hidden but I also authenticate my superuser so that i can access it.

    Please advise on this matter.

    Regards,

    Nicky

If your SD card is already formatted it still should mount in the Finder like any other external volume.  The path to any mounted volume is mounted in /Volumes which is a hidden directory, but the mounted volumes there are not hidden (or normally should not be).

What happens when you stick the SD card in?  If it does not show up in finder, does it show in Disk Utility?  If it does, just partition and format it from DU, no need to use command line tools.
