Q: Cant find devices in boot list

I need to format the internal HDD on an old PowerBook G4. I can't boot mac os x from internal HDD, so I installed OS X 10.5 on a USB FlashDrive, so I could boot from flashdrive and use disk utility. However I can't find the flashdrive in the boot list. I also tried with an external HDD firewire, this didn't show up either. Both devices shows up properly on other computers.

Any suggestions?

PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.5)

Some of the older machines were not able to boot from a USB drive, do you have an old install disk you can use to boot the machine?  Are you trying to boot by holding the Option key down during startup?  That will show all of the available volumes.

I'll see if I can get a CD and burn os x onto it. I know there can be problems to boot from USB on older machines, but I havent had any problems to boot from FireWire before.

Yes, I'm trying to boot from holding down option key.
