Feb 12, 2012 12:05 AM in response to Ratboyby Robert Ronning,As mentioned in my previous post I did as Gogolathome suggested and changed the HDMI cable. Not only did this fix the flickering problem, it seems like the loss of signal is solved as well. Been over a week now without problems.
So just make sure you have a good quality HDMI cable.

Feb 12, 2012 3:25 PM in response to Ratboyby WilliamGenske,I have this same issue. I travel between Germany and Spain with my Mac Mini (mid 2011 5.2, Lion 10.7.3). I have never had any probelms until today when I arrived in Spain and plugged my Mac Mini into my EIZO monitor using a HDMI to VGA adapter. Having left Germany this morning (where I plug directly into a full HD monitor via HDMI directly, and all was working perfectly), and I was somewhat taken aback when the EIZO monitor showed no signal being received from the Mac Mini. Tis same set up has always yilded perfect results from day 1.
I was further surprised that the Mac Mini correctly identified the monitor. I am having to screen share through my iPad and iTeleport (which is just not ideal), and so at this time my Mac Mini is useless, dead and basically as good as a $1,700 door stop.
I have tried resetting the PRAM, and many other issues discseed in this thread, but to no avail. Further, I tried the 1.4 firmware update, but the Mini tells me that this software is not compatible with my system.
I am in Spain for the next week and I need ot get back up and running, without using my iPad as a monitor. Any suggestions?
Thanks ahead of time,
WGenske

Mar 9, 2012 4:57 AM in response to Ratboyby jocke_nyman,I have the same issue as many else. My AV-receiver (Yamaha RX-v667) can't conect with the mac mini in 1080p @ 60Hz, from 25 Hz and lower it's OK. If i boot in windows it says 1080p @ 60Hz.
At the moment i use 720p in Lion (works fine with the receiver) but when i check what kind of signal the reciever it says "???->???" . Probably it's a hand-shake problem but how do i solve it so i can use 1080p in lion?

Mar 9, 2012 5:00 AM in response to jocke_nymanby thomasmb,i have the same reciever, and the same problem. Yamaha dude told me that it's a known issue, and said I should try with a HDMI 1.4 high speed certified cable. Haven't had the time to try it out yet.

Mar 9, 2012 5:13 AM in response to thomasmbby spaya,I have a workaround, it ***, but i couldnt stand it anymore... I had an unusable media system otherwise.
I purchased a toslink cable (minijack -> optical audio) and placed the macmini hdmi directly on the tv (pioneer kuro krp500).
Now it works, Video goes off the TV and audio goes out of the received via the optical audio.
When I contacted Yamaha they told me it was a faulty receiver (which is not). I tried with 3 different hdmi cables, one of them 1.4 with return audio, and a minidisplayport to hdmi and all had the issue. All those cables handshake perfectly with other devices and the received, except the macmini...

Mar 9, 2012 6:20 AM in response to thomasmbby jocke_nyman,I have ordered new cables from supra (their best series) and will probably receive them on wendnesday, i will return with the results then but i doesn't think it will solve the problem.
Why can't apple fix the bug in lion so the handshake works? Is there a way to get around the HDCP-problem?

Mar 9, 2012 6:34 AM in response to Ratboyby rcperkinsjr,As I posted in my previous thread... I HAD the same issue - did a software update, updated the EFI and all works perfectly - regardless of what cable I use. I have tried $10 Best Buy cheapies and $85 top of the line all with the same results. It works now that EFI is up to date and all updates are applied.
Hope it helps.

Mar 11, 2012 11:01 PM in response to Ratboyby donald177,Copying thsi from antoher thread but this is what solved my issue AMcbook Pro 13" with lion
OK, I waited thirty minutes and then had to solve it myself.
Here is what worked.
Plugged in Power, don’t ask but this seemed to help me get at least to a display but still had the flickering.
Go to the system preferences, select Displays
Check the box “Show Displays in Menu Bar”
From there you should see your displays listed. Pick a resolution setting that stops the flickering.
You should now have a stable screen.
I did not select mirroring as this caused my display to not be as sharp. Instead you have to drag the content you want over to the monitor over. For video conference this was perfect as we can have the video app running on the LCD screen and then view other content on the MacBook on the conference table.
Hope this helps some, at least it solve my immediate problem. Just to be safe, keeping the Dell out of sight in a cabinet.
Cheers!

Mar 12, 2012 7:55 AM in response to rcperkinsjrby jocke_nyman,I have the latest EFI 1.6 for the mini, do you run it through the 667 receiver and it works fine now at 1080p?
Donald177: Thx for the help but i has already turn down the resolotion to 720p, works good, but when i watch movies it would be nice to run it in 1080p.
Cheers!

Mar 14, 2012 9:33 AM in response to jocke_nymanby jocke_nyman,I have now tried my supra -Met 1.4 cabels without any result, still no signal and probably a waste of money. I am still waiting for Applesupport to get back to me about the problem, only been wating for a week, really hope they will come up with a solution...
Is it any one that has a mac mini -> receiver that works fine in 1080p? Would be nice if you share which receiver(brand and model), cables and tv is used and how it is connected(maybe matris, split or a ps3 in the receiver also)!

Samsung D4000-series TV

Tried everything. Please fix this Apple, it is getting embarrasing.

Mar 15, 2012 8:24 AM in response to Ratboyby fgendron,Mac Mini Latest Model, 1.6 EFI
Cambridge Audio Azur 650R
Panasonic AE-4000 projector
This IS embarassing. My hunch is that it is a timing issue, whereby either the mac mini was not ready when the handshake was sent from the projector and missed it, or the mac mini does not wait long enough for the handshake signal.
The people who have success, by changing cables, or have it sometimes work and sometimes not, are simply seeing situations where the timing 'worked' on occasion.

Mar 15, 2012 10:01 AM in response to Ratboyby jocke_nyman,Talked to Apple today, they said to me that the mini is made for an external monitor and not for a receiver. The doesn't guarantee that it will work with any third party products like a receiver and will not develop a new software for solve the problem, they will only help you if you have a problem between the mini and a TV/monitor. End of that story...
So what are we going to do about this problem? Ask yamaha/pioneer etc? I don't know, but i will probably wait for Yamaha:s answer and depending on that maybe go to the store and try diffrent receivers to see if ANYONE works in 1080p. If it is so i will throw out the yamaha receiver through the window...
p-a_backström: Yes inded, it is EMBARRASING. Apple only makes worse when they say that it is not their products fault and that is my problem.
I also asked them if Apple tv3/tv2 is compatible with a reciever (because it is a mediacenter and usually you plug it in to your receiver) i got the same answer for it as for the mini, so it would probably not work either. The only way to know that it is going to work is to try it in the receiver, can be really expensive if you buying the receiver first.
Conclution: Apple is to busy to develop the new ML OS and won't/can't solve this problem beacuse it is not enought peolpe with a mac->receiver->Tv - problem and if, and I say IF, they going to solve it I don't think it will happen before ML is released.
But i still want to know if anyone has a mini throu a receiver that works fine in 1080p!
I will probably go to a hifi-store tomorrow with the mini and try some receivers 500$-1200$ price range, i will let you know about the result of it. I'm going to test following brands:
- Harman/Kardon
- Marantz
- Onkyo
- Pioneer (especially VSX-921/ VSX-1021)
If it is a specific model you want me to try (of the above modells) let me know and i will try it if they have it in stock.
I really hope i find a receiver that works fine with mac mini.

Mar 16, 2012 10:14 AM in response to Ratboyby jocke_nyman,Hello again!
I didn't had so much time to try diffrent receivers so i tried only the pioneer vsx-921 in the store. It worked fine in 1080p. The connection was Mac mini-> Pioneer-> Lava Tv with ixos cables! I will se if yamaha has a solution or if I will change receiver!
