Hello,

Is there a way to copy JUST the automation from a giving track?.

I want to do this for the volume level only I want to do this so I can that paste it into others tracks.

It is an intricate Favorite "Ducking" pattern. It takes too long to create it by hand.

Also, is there any way to write in exact numbers in the points in the automation?

Dragging keeps "noding" and skipping some of my desired volume levels.

Thank you so much for any help.

I don't know. But there is a way to type "Automation" and "Copy" in the discussions search field

Sure, just press the standard key commands for Copy and Paste.

(Make sure that the automation nodes you want to copy are selected. Option-clicking on the first node selects all.)

ETA: automation most of course be visible on that track. What you see is what you copy.

Yes. First open your Automation Event List ctrl-cmd-E, then open a new Arrange window (cmd-1). The regions on this new arrange contain only the automation.

But... why open the automation event list?

It's the only way to get to the "automation arrange window."  Try it, you'll see the difference.

Because otherwise you just get a normal Arrange window. Only with the AE list open you'll get the special automation arrange.

    Hi

If you want to copy the entire volume (or other) automation for the track, Command click on the Automation Fader to selct all the Nodes, Command C to copy, select the other track, Command V topaste.

If you only want a selction of the autolation, not all of it, carefully Shift Drag to selct the required bits.

    Copy Automation.jpg

No need for the Automation Event List (unless I am missing some crucial point?)

    Yes. From the manual:

Tip: If you open another Arrange window (Command-1) while the Automation Event List window is open, you will see all automation data as folder regions in a separate Arrange window. These can be handled just like MIDI regions, but only affect automation data.

Bottom line: there are several ways to do what CRB asked. This is one of them.

I tailored it a bit and made a screenset of it:

    Hi Eriksimon

Not saying that you were/are wrong here, just questioning the need to go to the Auto Event list when there is a more straightforward way.

As always with Logic, there are generally several ways to achieve the desired result :-)

I know about that old Automation Event List and Automation Arrange window list, but I just wondered (and still wonder) why that in any way would be a better solution than the more standard "just select what you want to copy and use Copy and Paste" solution.

    :-)

I wonder why you wonder so much about such a small detail.

I can imagine it being pretty good for LFO-type automation, to name just one thing. You can use a lot of the techniques used on regular arrange regions.

What's up with everybody being in such a hurry that two (lefthanded) keystrokes is considered "too much effort"? Jeez...
