Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

@Jprescottjr - well i think we both need to get our units replaced very soon. According to John, the display is supposedly impressive. Mind is clearly the opposite, my iPad 2 looks nicer. Wierd eh?

I too am having the same issue.  I couldn't wait to get it out of the box and compare it to my son's iPad 2.  While I think the 3 is crisper looking, pages that should be clean white are washed out and yellow.

I posted in another thread that I'm having the same problem.  New iPad screen is very warm/yellow... making it appear washed out.  From a distance, my iPad 2 screen looks nicer.  Also have a whole bunch of visible dead pixels.  Definitely a clunker...

FYI for all of the people who are curious about what im talking about, you can check out the youtube video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lapCYYMcAOk&list=UUWIw8jZ8WuGzJkfNBhzoPFQ&index=3 &feature=plcp

The guy mentioned that the new iPad looks much nicer but its clearly having a yellowish undertone. Im having the same problem. Actually, I've also did some research and have learnt that apple used to have a history of yellow gate issues and I'm sure most of us in this thread are experiencing that now! Major bummer!

I have something similar. While not really yellow as such there is a definite warm colour caste to the display on the iPad (3rd Gen) compared side by side with the iPad 2. If viewed on its own the new iPad looks fine, all whitey white. It's only side by side with the iPad 2 it looks an odd hue. Now this could be a settling in thing and it will disappear in time. It could be screen glue-gate again that might settle down with use, although I doubt that would be so uniform, or it could be the new Gorilla Glass and extra saturation and contrast that they've put into this model.

Out of interest, those saying the display is absolutely stunning with no issues do you have an iPad 2 to compare it with side by side?

As I said, when viewed on its own the display is stunning with great contrast and whites really standing out. Side by side? Definite warming caste.

It's not causing me any major issues though so I doubt I'll heave it back in the post.

I just tried to go to the website for my local Apple store and reserve a Genius Bar appointment.  The links are dead and won't work.  Is that standard procedure when a new product is introduced so they won't be overwhelmed?

There is no Gorilla Glass in the new iPad.

Habit. Meant to type 'glass'. It's like 'iPod' becoming synonymous with 'mp3 players' - everyone tends to say 'Gorilla Glass' when referring to any form of toughened glass in these mobile devices. I try to avoid it but fail occasionally. Don't shoot me.

@rwgleaves - I'm not exactly sure about the genius bar appointments as I am in Singapore and there isn't any apple stores here. Perhaps you could trying giving the apple care support guys a call which I did this morning. They told me to bring it down to an authorized reseller to get it replaced but I'm really afraid the replacement set might just be very well the same. And I think there is also a 14 days return policy if u want to get a brand new set instead of a refurbished one.

I bought mine at Walmart at 12:01am today.  They had a total of 20 iPads.  I will have no luck there.  Can I take this to the Apple Store?

Also, what is the number for Apple Support and does anyone else have any luck scheduling a Genius Bar appointment?

@rwgleaves - well then I guess u would have to call this number if you are in the U.S.

U.S. iPod, Mac and iPad technical support:

    (800) APL-CARE (800-275-2273)

Actually, I'm in the same predicament. Apple told me to bring it down to authorized reseller to get it replaced and the shop I bought it from this afternoon are clearly out of stock and have no idea when the next shipment would arrive. I'm definitely caught in a fix. Need to know what is the best way outta this!

Use a new version of Firefox instead of IE.  Their site did not work in IE8 for me... but it worked in Firefox 11.  I also reserved a Genius Bar appointment, but I suspect they will be all sold out of 64gb 4g versions.  Guess I'll find out...
