Have you checked that your firewall (if enabled) is allowing access for iTunes, do you run any anti virus software.
Could you your Wi-Fi network be suffering from interference.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

My firewall is on and it's set to allow the iTunes connection.
Regarding a possible interference issue, I've scanned my immediate area and no one else is on the same router channel that I'm currently using. I spoke with a senior advisor at Apple today and he firmly belives it's a router issue, eventhough I've unblocked all of the necessary ports and I have no issues with internet access with any my Apple devics ATV2, Macbook or my iPad.
On the flip side, Netgear feels that the router operating nomally and we've taken all of the necessary steps to rule out a router / intranet problem.
Any other suggestions?

Sound like a network problem, however. BTW, has is been working?
Things you could try are:
1. Turn OFF computer's Firewall restart computer (then TEST).
2. Turn OFF router's Firewall restart router (then TEST).
3. Uninstall iTunes (only the APP, NOT your iTunes library), restart computer.
4. Download and install iTunes from Apple, repair permission (Mac).
5. Re-Authorize computer in iTunes
6. Re-Start Home Sharing in iTunes (then TEST).
7. Start your Firewall's (if you wish).

I have the same problem... my Airplay worked fine until the new Apple TV software update. I haven't changed anything else. I think there is something wrong with the new Apple TV iOS release.

Thank you for the suggestions but unfortunately none of them worked. At this point, I'm going to follow up with the Apple sr. advisor I spoke with yesterday and see if he has any other suggestions.
I'll pass along any info he gives me.
