I realize that each case is different. For me, this has returned the battery life on my phone to normal.
So no guarantees that this will fix the problem in everyone's case, but one more thing to try. I know that, ultimately, it's up to Apple to provide a definitive fix for problems like this.

Really how old are you cause what you are writting is bully someone based on the fact there english or grammer is not stellar
I agree, you're spelling and writing quite well for someone who speaks english as a second language.
JOhn they did that 5 times with me pulled results and no follow up
One can only imagine why they did not take you seriously?
Everyone here believes you.
Stephan Hawkins need i remind you was the most impaired person
That's a bit rough, I knew Stephan. Walked with a bit of a limp, but otherwise a regular guy.
and for a older person you sure arnt acting your acting lt
Yeah he's acting as an actor who acts like an engineer.
making fun of someones challanges with writting .. You think that is right?
It's not right to make fun of someone with mental illness.
You stand up for your 'challenges'.

I realize that each case is different. For me, this has returned the battery life on my phone to normal.
I too found a simple tweak that fixed my problems.
I know that, ultimately, it's up to Apple to provide a definitive fix for problems like this.
There is only a couple of people here who are unable to fix the problem themseleves, and Apple appears to be working with them.
Those who are unable to function normally are just ignored with good reason.

…i have had 7 iphone 4's even before 5.1 and nothing was fixing this issue not restores not reinstalls nothing there is faulty coding that overloads the memory
So it isn't 5.1 that is the problem?
Although I think you're lost, this question is relating to the iPhone 4, not the 4s.
…more and more disatisfied (sp?) iphone users every few months.. does that not point to a wide spread issue…
There is only a handful of people in this forum with this problem.
I have read many people dissatisfied with Apple in the forum, but due to a multitude of problems.
That does not mean that it's a wide spread issue, actually there is about 10 people complaining of battery issues on iPhone4 after 5.1; and considering the millions of iPhone 4 that's hardly 0.1%
… also add to the factor that samsung designers the chips put into the phone and yet there phones never have the issues so its the sotward(sp?) developers that make the phones faulty.
Samsung did not design the A4 processor.
And Samsung phones use different processors; otherwise you could run Android on an iPhone; which one can't, but you may be able to?
As an intelligent person, an engineer, you should know the difference between processors.
Craig its not the phone trust me i have had 12 phones in total and nothing has changed the facts through numerous versions its pre-planned to cause your phone to fail so that you go and buy new phones GREEDY company
Why buy 12 phones, and all had problems, and yet you kept on buying them.
Or did you buy all 12 in one go?
Didn't you say 7 before?
If iPhones are so faulty why have you bought so many?
Why not return them if they didn't work?
Sounds like they are a great phone and you recommend buying loads of them.

just like I have hard prove this is going.. also the root kit tracking softward (sp?) that constantly needs to connect to the network consumes to much data and info as well..
Good to hear you're not paranoid.
Next time you go to Apple store ask about the root kit that tracks your everyone movement constantly many of those idiots in the stores are not aware of it
If they are not aware, then why ask them?
If they deny it then they don't know, or they are lying?
Doesnt (sp?) matter what phone you have what version of software.
Then why are some people having issues after the update, and not before? What are you trying to say here?
there is a fault batch of ram or even both ram & processor that when loading new versions it can cause huge wear
Oh right, so it's software, AND faulty ram or processor.
I thought you said it was bad coding and not a hardware problem?
Is it both?
Also add to this the faulty units or batches if you will likely game from Fox con where the employees where unhappy about how they are treated and didnt care to make sure the product was suitable for market
So it isn't Apple's fault?
It's a Foxconn employee who is against us?
FIX YOUR PRODUCT APPLE!.. you read this forum now listen to the people who support you
This is a user forum.
If they did read this then, IMHO I doubt they would read your posts.
As you say, Apple should listen to those who support them.
I am a engineer and i can tell you the solutions they give you do not work and its alot deeper …they enforce the update on you eventually causing the unit to also be defective
I believe you've cracked it.
Oh wait, they enforce the update?
No one is forced to update… or is someone forcing you?
If you have the solution, then why don't you tell us exactly what it is?
Currently Being ModeratedMar 21, 2012 1:23 PM (in response to Calgarystar)
JOhn they did that 5 times with me pulled results and no follow up at all always tell u go to the store do.. some research mr engineer and then tell me im (sp?) not crazy.. cause if you that skilled and that much experience pretty sure you'd see what they are doing
So you know what is wrong, and yet Apple did not listen to you.
They took the time, 5 times, to contact you and each time they then ignored you?
Wonder why, I mean you have the answer, right?
You're not telling anyone the answer, but you've got it.
I think that Apple does not need to contact you, as they are tracking your iPhone already right? Root Kits?
… hidden software within is drawing power from the processor and causing the drain and that you can't do anything about just like wiht (sp?) what you found its designed to make the phone flaw
Ah, the hidden software that we should ask about, but they don't know about, or are hiding?
Am I getting close?
Yes turning off location and or settings like icloud help
Say what, so now we can fix it with a simple tweak?
You're all over the place here bro.
ROOT KIT anyone?..
No thanks I've eaten already.
Tracking you even after you have turned the setting of location off?
Oh, right, yeah, yeah that makes rational sense.
Amazing how you found it, and yet this never came out during the whole tracking data issue.
example of poor coding also can be pointed in a phone with 5.01 iphone 4 works fine without texting lag you upgrade to 5.1 and there is lag if that isnt (sp?) bad coding or causing a glitch then engineers speak out because im (sp?)more then certain that is poor coding.
No problems on my iPhone 4 with 'lag'.
And I have yet to read another person complaining about this 'lag' you speak of.
Oddly my iPhone also adds punctuation for me; so I am doubting that your writing this on an iPhone.
Also my iPhone helps with spelling, so again I'm gonna have to call you out on blaming the iPhone for your terrible writing.
i have looked deep into 2 units … think of it as a virus on your computer runs and slows things done because someone is in your system or tracking your every move and no this is not far fetched
Can you look deep into your 12 units and give a definitive answer for us?
The deeper you go the closer you seem to get to the truth, so please dig deep.
Currently Being ModeratedMar 21, 2012 1:26 PM (in response to Calgarystar)
they control what version of software we can have on the units that works so is it really far fetched to say they control our information?
Hmm, I control what version of software I have on my iPhone.
Is software version connected to information control?
itunes music you purchase the rights to a song but only can use on ipods or there devices?
Odd, I can burn iTunes songs to CD, and can copy them to other devices. You should give it a go.
I'm a little surprised an engineer cannot copy?
Give it a try, it's not too hard to burn a disk or copy the music.
Most music comes DRM free on iTunes now too.
if there wasnt (sp?) a battery issue why after every release are there issues constantly?... are the majority wacky and crazy no its poor product
Actually seems like a minority have issues.
Notice how the world press is eating up the fact that the iPad is much hotter then before?
That is what a real issue looks like, see how there are actually a lot of people who experience it?
Then it gets noticed.
Makes me wonder though, you get so many facts, spelling, and punctuation wrong, maybe your totally wrong about the iPhones issues?
No, I bet your spot on!

FACETIME and iMessage
may drain your battery.
I think I solved mine. The battery lasts way longer now. Here is what I have done.
I updated iOS 5.1 and did couple of hard boot and I had an issue with notification service. So I restored my backup. During the process, iTunes downloaded iOS 5.1 again and install it with the application I had previously. Then, I had the battery problem.
I read it somewhere that there is a bug, "waiting for activation" with Facetime and iMessage so I turned them off > on (it asks your account details) > off again. Couple of days later, I tried to turn this on and off again and it did not ask me to login the server.
It seems that the services for Facetime and iMessage kept trying to connect the server for the activation without account details and causes the battery problem.
Hope this help some people.

Same issue here. I have iPhone 4 16G. Updated to OS 5.1 and wow! Battery is now CRIPPLED! Thought I may have left CO-Pilot Sat nav on in the back ground which can drain the phone, however I have NOTHING on. Usual use with Bluetooth and Wi fi on is 1-1.5 days of light use.
Basically, phone plugged in, wake up in the morning;
(Phone on, but Zero use)
@10:42 - 65%
@13:42 - 35%
@14:40 - 27%
So basically phone battery loss is approx 10.23% per hour, with blue tooth, wi-fi off, and no back ground programs running.
Just did full phone re-set and going to see what happens, but any advice in the meantime?

Thanks for posting this!
I also had a CalDav account set up for work (via Yahoo) which was working OK before the 5.1 update, just tried turning it off to see if it will help things. I didn't see the crashes in System Status like you did but I did see a lot of what looked like calendar access activity. After a morning of rapid battery drain (10% drop in one hour) it's currently stabilized at 83% (on wifi, been off the charger for 5+ hours). Crossing my fingers...
BTW, do you have any idea what constitutes the 'Other' in the Memory tab (the purple bar)? My iPhone is currently using 33mb of Active memory, 69mb Wired, 21mb Inactive, 13mb Free and a whopping 367mb in Other.

Thank you ZZamboni. I did not install it yet, but it looks like doing the hard reset, setup as new phone has worked for me. I hadn't gotten good numbers until I let my phone (4Gs) run down to 0% and turn itself off last night. I charged it overnight, unplugged it this morning, and here are my #s so far. By far the best I have seen.
