Q: Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I'm having an issue as well with my wi-fi 32gb ipad 3.  I have an iphone 4s, macbook, and sony vaio laptop and all have excellent wi-fi reception.  I noticed that I was dropping a connection on my ipad3 and my connection strength was much worse compared to my other devices.  I can't go upstairs in my home with the ipad3 due to it being unable to keep a connection

@toddy - what a rude, judgmental, mean comment.  It offended me, whatever lt caveman's response.  I actually think caveman sounds like a really nice open guy.  You sound like a bully. 

I didnt read this whole long post. But has anyone tried doing a Network Reset on their iPad? Then connect back to the whatever wifi connection they need to connect to then test.

I have had the same issue when migrating to the last two ipads and iphones. Untill i did a network reset the wifi did not work right.

IE you migrate all your settings from your old idevice to the new one,you are carrying over network settings to the new one. So in short you need to remove the settings and set them up again. Kinda of like when you install a new network card it has new drivers on a windows box. It wont work right.

Yup I found this too.  Just got the ipad 3 on the weekend, and playing video on it, half way through, the video stopped saying I didnt have a wifi connection.  The ipad hadnt been moved, it just lost the connection.  A couple of seconds later after closing the app (4oD) the wifi icon came back up and I was able to view the video.  Its happened several times now.

Should the ipad be returned?

Mine is brand new and i didn t restore any setting on it.

There is no " reset network settings " on the IPAD wifi .

Just called Apple, they asked me to restore....and if it s still not working they ll replace it.

Yes, I did a reset, as my earlier post said. No difference.

Settings\General\Reset Network Settings. That is how you reset the network settings on the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch. If anyone needs a heads up on how to do this.

I notice the new ipad has a very slow wifi speed.

I compare it with the iphone 4s. The new ipad is only half speed of 4s in wifi test.

So after nearly a week of this mine is going back (16gb wifi only model purchased from apples UK online store)  they will come and pick it up sometime soon.

In the meantime I've been out and purchased a new one from currys and IT'S JUST THE SAME

Doesn't matter how many bars are lit it just drops the connection so even with a full fan it can't get wifi  HOWEVER if I lay it down on its back it works just fine prop it up vertical (not touching it) and it fails again

I did try turning my router on its side but the iPad still only works on its back

I have two broadband connections and two routers. Exactly the same on both I love this device but it's useless to me if I can only use it in he same room as my routers. Bah humbug

How old is your router and have you power cycled your network equipment lately?

I too am having this issue but it is much more prevalent on 5GHZ networks than 2.4 GHZ. I have tried with 2 top end routers (Asus RTN56U & Netgear WNDR4500) and although slightly cleaner signal and range on the Netgear (yes I was surprised too as the Asus has been fantastic on my iPhone and original iPad) it drops off way too quickly on the new iPad. When my original iPad is showing full bars the new iPad is showing 2.

I have done the network reset to no avail.

Hope something can be done abut this as it is very frustrating.

Sorry, Hitcheak.  Like I said, went through 1 machine from Apple online, and 3 machines at the Apple store.  All the same.  I'm back (disappointingly, but relieved) with the iPad 2, which, I'm glad I didn't sell.

Probably power cycled the routers 20 times this week. Both are fairly new one is a bt business hub the other a Bellini. I've also tried disabling QoS,  802.11n leaving just 'G'  removing all security and physically moving the routers to a higher point in the office. No different my iPad 1 never once dropped like this

I have the opposite effect.

With the new iPad i have better wifi connections than with all other notesbooks in our home.

Even 2 stairs down with concrete walls i have good connections where i had no connections with the notebooks.
