Q: Almost every shoot I do, Aperture manages to corrupt 5-10 RAW images?

I use a Canon 600D, all software is updated.
I transfer images through USB cable.

 

I've tried repairing and rebuilding (command/option keys when clicking Aperture) however, I always (without fail) get 5-10 corrupted images (or at least seem corrupted).

 

How can I fix this? I think luckily all the photos on the camera are OK, however it's getting to the point where I'm too scared to delete them off it as Aperture might corrupt fantastic shots.

 

Any help will be apprecited... can't seem to find an answer yet.

    Have you tried using a different memory card in your camera?

    Have you tried using a card reader or a different USB cable?

    Do any corruptions show when you use Canon's software?

     

    Just trying to narrow things down.

    Just to make sure that you do not have a hardware problem:

     

    Have you tried using a different USB Cable or a different card in the camera?

     

    How have you checked that the images in the camera are ok? Are they o.k. if you import to Image Capture?

    No... I didn't even know they had their own softare for editing, I'll see if I can dig it out from the box

    Hi leonie, the images on the camera are fine - and sometimes, when I re-import, they turn out OK. It seems very random.

     

    Sorry... what is image capture?

    OK little update...

     

     

    I tried 'editing' one of these corrupted images and the export version seemed ok...? So it seems the Aperture is corrupting the preview image?

    Select all the corrupted Images, hold down "{Option}" and click "Photos→Generate Previews".  That will force Aperture to create new Previews from the Master+Version files.

    Sorry... what is image capture?

     

    Image Capture is a utility Program on the Mac for importing images from devices. You find it in the Applications Folder. It is used to download images from your mobile devices, cameras, scanners - very basic. So it is a good test to see if your camera and card are o.k. If you see the same problems in Image Capture, then Aperture is not the culprit here.

     

     

    So it seems the Aperture is corrupting the preview image?

     

    You can try to rebuild the previews or to reprocess the raw masters.

    • To rebuild the previews: Select the images in Aperture in the Browser, ctrl-click the selection, hold down the options key   and select "Generate Previews"
    • To reprocess the raw master images: Select the images in Aperture in the Browser, ctrl-click the selection, and select "Reprocess Masters"

     

    P.S: I see, Kirby told you already about rebuilding Previews ...

    It is a bad idea to import from the camera.  Has this ever happend when using a card reader to first import?

    This doesn't seem to change anything... Images still appear corrupted

     

     

     

    Maybe it's an idea to buy a card reader?

    A card reader is always good to have, do it; but also check if the card is o.k. Do you have a second memory card to try?

    Also, never, ever, allow Aperture to remove images from a memory card.  No experience with your camera, but I know that some cameras will misbehave if battery power is low even when deleting in the camera.  Always Reformat a card to delete images, which of course is all at once.

    I'll do my best to purchase a reader soon, along side a different card (I only have one) and come back to this if I still encounter the same problem

    Have you tried a re-import to see if the same images are corrupted? I have sometimes seen this, and when I re-import, everything is fine. I suspect the cable.

    Yes, indeed when I re-import sometimes the images are OK, however is its so random - another lot could be corrupted!

     

    Pay day is approaching slowly... I will investigate further then
