I had bought a used iPhone 3g for my sister. I live in Denmark and she lives in Norway, so when I would visit her, I packed it into my suitcase and fly up there. But when she was about to use it went out all the time.

I took it home again, but when I took it out of the suitcase, it seemed to have exploded.

I could see when I got the logic board away (which was broken) the battery warswelled to twice its size.

Is there anyone who has experienced the same and who know what to do? The warranty has expired.

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1

Bring it in to Apple for an out of warranty exchange.

I do not approve with the way apple policy is on this matter.

I have the same phone. Iphone 3GS 16GB. I charged it to take on holiday. on arrival to my holiday destination, I noticed it has come apart! you can just see the Battery inside all swollen and inflated. I called the iphone help line (via orange business customer support). I was told it was a rare thing to happen. I was put on hold while he speaks to a senior, then came back to tell me there is a charge for assessing it and another for replacing it. I find that disturbing and quite frankly cheap. We have 6 apple products in the household. If each one explodes like that and I am told they cannot do anything about it, then they should put a disclaimer saying " if your product explodes on charging and flying, its not our fault ! " Toyota is never embarrassed recalling cars back,Evian didn't have a problem recalling there bottled water back when there was a problem. Apple on the other hand and despite making enough profit in the first year alone since the launch of the phone, would not recall a product that maybe dangerous under certain circumstances. It was disappointing to come to the conclusion after speaking to the senior person, who was curtious, that nothing can be done!
