I've seen where a couple of people are experiencing this. Seems to be consistent and so they get a replacement from the Apple Store. I happened to me only once. Took several videos before and also after , but it happened to me only one time. What I get is complete silence, no static or anything, just complete lack of audio.
Has this "one time" occurrence happen to anyone else?
I'm one of the people who had this problem all the time and exchanged their iPhone 4 for another. No issues at all with the new one.

Aug 1, 2010 6:15 AM in response to Stu77429by baslotto,Yes, it happened to me only once 2 days ago and I don't have a clue on how to reproduce this issue.
What the **** happened? It has to be a software thing. -
Aug 15, 2010 11:38 AM in response to Stu77429by fireman_two,I too had no audio when recording video. [Obtained my new Iphone4 six days ago. All other audio functions work]. Based on comments in this and other threads, I made an appointment with Apple to replace the phone.
But guess what? I complained to a friend who is VERY into Apple products. He said show me. As I recorded a video in his presence, he reached over and hit the volume control (plus) button on the phone. THAT WAS THE FIX! Unbeknownst to me, I had the volume almost off.
I hope this is your solution, too. -
Aug 28, 2010 9:06 AM in response to fireman_twoby doddstr13,Same problem here. I fixed it when I found that the phone thought I had Bluetooth device connected. I went to iPod and changed audio setting. Wala. Now audio works with my video playback. -
Sep 2, 2010 4:55 PM in response to fireman_twoby Stu77429,I figured it out. There is no audio when you make a video of exactly 12 seconds. Make a video and stop it right before the counter indicates 12 seconds and you will replicate it every time. -
Aug 2, 2011 5:57 AM in response to Stu77429by sandrafrommilton keynes,Hello, I've just encountered this problem for myself. Having checked all my settings and volume levels, and looking for on-line help, I decided to compare my phone with my hubby's (whose video and sound are working) and found that my phone had connected me to another wifi connection. I told the phone to forget that setting, went back on to my own wifi setting and when I tried the video again it worked perfectly. It may just be coincidence, but it's worth a try as it worked for me. Hope this helps and thanks to everyone else for your handy problem solving tips. :) x

Sep 2, 2012 11:23 AM in response to Stu77429by MackieBrown,My Cousin had the same problem with her iPhone 4 and had already taken it to the Apple Store in Chicago where they ran diagnostics and updated all of her software. They eventually told her that it was a hardware problem and that she would simply have to buy a new one.
The phone was just a couple of months outside the original warranty so when she showed up in Atlanta this weekend, we made a reservation at the Northpoint Store. Initaially we got the same response but the gentleman helping me asked to take the phone to the back one last time to do a little bench debugging. When he came back the phone was working perfectly.
The problem was NOT:
Software
The Volume level
The Speaker
The Microphone
or any Application Settings.
The problem was a spec of dirt got lodged in a small hole next to the headphone jack. This hole is for the noise cancellation cicruit and when it is bl;ocked, nasty things happen. If you do this yourself, make sure you have plenty of light, a good set of glasses, and an anti-static brush of sorts.
Hope this helps for those of you that have tried the traditional fixes and still can't get audio for your speaker phone or videos.

I wanted it to post under the post from the person whose friend turned up the volume while the video was playing.
