Q: Light Table vs. Album - How do you use them?

I have been using Aperture for some years now, but I never have come across a problem where I thought "Wow, a light table - that is the solution!"

Usually all my projects start with collecting the images in an album - or a smart album / filter /flags - and then creating books, slideshows, webpages, or screensavers from them. Occasionally I started with a light table - just for the novelty of it - but usually ended up with a cluttered mess of images spread out before me and no clear plan how to proceed from there. So I am curious - what are typical workflows that require light tables instead of albums, and what is the advantage of using a light table instead of a more ordered Aperture item?

Thanks for any input!

I use Lighttables for two things:

    - to line up Images that I will stitch with an external editor (for various reasons these are not always in order).

    - to judge color balance, color interactions, and cropping/shape for images that will be sold and displayed as a set.

Thank you Kirby, very good points, and beautifully illustrated

OOT: The last time I used my real world light table to sort slides it became so hot it burned a hole into the table cloth ...

And what do you do when you suddenly have to go through a bunch of slides and the last light table you had is long gone?

    Yep!

But now there's an app for that: I use Flashlight.

I'll use my slide projector - it still works - or I'll make a trip to Florda and ask nicely if i may borrow your light table - looks nice

(good thing you added the link. I thought you were holding a flashlight up to your face and looking at each slide that way)

Not sure how many slides you're gonna fit on an iPhone screen at one time but if you have a few hundred slides to go through I think you're gonna be there a long time! Now if they have this for an iPad that would be the perfect excuse to buy one. "Really I needed to get in order to sort through my slides!"

And Léonie as far as the slide projector goes unless you have more then one it gets hard to compare slides that way. "Do you like this one, pause click, Or this one? Not sure ok again, this one, pause click or this one?" Gets old real fast

However if you are down this way let me know. As long as the 'light table' hasn't been shipped off somewhere you're more then welcome to use it! And with the strange weather the pool is open already so as long as you don't mind swimming with the dogs .....

And I can throw some gator on the barbie!

What a gracious invitation! Some day I'll act on it for - be warned!

And I wan't mind the dogs in the pool, but the gators I prefer on the barbecue, not in the pool - how do you serve them? With corn on the cob or baked potatoes? I'll bring a salad and Jever Pilsner.

    Cheers

You're in luck.  Luminance is set by swiping finger up/down.

    Slide Projectors:

A few years ago you could buy used ones by the dozen, pennies to the dollar.  Probably still can.

    Shipping to Hamburg:

The Gomez Bright-box™ _is_ a shipping container.  Brilliant!

    Barbie:

Cypress-smoked Gatarmatruff!  (I heard deep in the swamps of northwest Florda they make a local version of Turducken: gator stuffed with armadillo stuffed with truffles, wrapped in palm fronds and slow-smoked in sand pits.  Otherworldly good.

Do you really need an excuse to get yourself an iPad? Flashlight claims to be working on an iPad
