Q: PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues

Finally copying iTunes from my PC to Mac.  It was suggested by Apple that I do this via homesharing.  Why is it that 1) PC itunes has 2196 songs 2) Mac itunes sees 2192 but only copying xxx of 2093.  Why am I missing 100 songs and no, not a purchased music issue...those are coming over quite fine!

Wow--If you have a network that's a darn silly way to transfer....

(Assuming you'd already setup iTunes on you Mac, and authorized your computer, you could have copied the whole mess to the "Automatically Add... folder)

Anyway, I'll take a guess here about why some didn't transfer.

Are the missing songs in WMA format? I don't think iTunes Mac supports WMA.

To test, on your PC, make visible the "Kind" column (via View Options- control-J)) sort by kind see if there are any WMA tunes

If not, it's likely it's still

I WROTE THE FOLLOWING NOT REALIZING APPLE HAS REMOVED THIS FEATURE FROM iTUNES 10.5x Shame on Apple

If you're willing to find and install iTunes 9.x on your PC  you could do the following...

You might try the following to at least determine which songs are misssing:

launch iTunes on both computers, enable home sharing on both computers

Select your PC's iTunes Library icon on in the Leftside Sidebar on your mac. Give it a moment, and all items should appear.

Now click the popup on the bottom of window where it says "All Items"

SO SORRY, I Was disconnected in the middle of editing this (said Apple Discussions being updated)  After writing above, discovered my PC didn't still have Home Sharing enabled (may be necc to enable after every update)

    Corrected response as follows

You should try the following to at least determine which songs are misssing:

    1. launch iTunes on both computers, Make home sharing on BOTH computers
    2. Select your PC's iTunes Library icon on in the Leftside Sidebar on your mac. Give it a moment, till all items appear.
    3. Now click the popup on the bottom left of window where it says "All Items", and choose "Items not on my Computer"
    4. You should now be able to select a song and click "import"

Out of curiositly: try to analyze why those items didn't transfer:

    1. Are any of the items in your PC's library missing? (They'll display an exclamation point icon)

    2. Formats: Are the missing songs in WAV / WMA format? I don't know if  iTunes Mac supports WMA (iTunes PC will gladly convert WMA for you.). I don't think either version does WAV.

To test, on your PC, make visible the "Kind" column (via View Options- control-J)) sort by kind see if there are any WMA tunes

    3. Unlikely but possible: The method you used only transferred purchased items.

    4. There is something corrupt  or wrong about the songs in question (windoze permissions issues?)

    HTH

I would like to share my experience, it might help others. I had ATV 1 and ATV 2 connected via wireless and Airport base stations with no problems or issues. Updated all to the latest versions, including my main computer using OS X Lion. After the last Airport update, both the Utility and the firmware, i received my two new ATV 3s.

Then the problems started. I found every day, several times, the problem of missing the ATVs in Airplay and not being able to load the libraries. The obnoxious spinning wheel on the ATV and the never ending "loading XXX library" message.

After reading several posts, resetting airport, itunes, atv, turning on and off home sharing, the problem did not disappear.

I decided then to change the Share name of my iMac, change the name of the iTunes shared library and choose custom names for both ATV 3s. Reset everything and it seems to be working, while i have not done extensive testing yet.

It seems that, for some obscure reason, the association between the names of these objects, bonjour, wifi and wireline setting, got corrupted. Seems to me that some ARP or reverse lookup was not completely working.

Since this was so frustratring, i want to share so others can elaborate as well.

    Good luck.

The same thing has been  happening (off and on) to me alot recently. I think you're right that there's some kind of confusion going on. However, I think it's iTunes related (I've yet to do the Airport update) and the problem exists on my MacPro which is running 10.52. My notebook (a MacBookPro) is running an older version of iTunes.

My iTunes Library's already had different names (since I'd heard that could cause a lot of confusion. What has worked for me (2x) has been to also turn on itunes on my MacBookPro. Bizarrely I can then access both. I believe my iTunes DB is somewhat corrupted on my MacPro (I'd had a couple crashes) I wouldn't be surprised trashing some file or or rebuilding the iTunes DB would work, as clearly this is not a permanent solution. I haven't tested with my PC yet.

Ok, this is an encouraging test. After multiple upgrades, updates, network changes, all to no avail, this seems to narrow the problem.

I created a new user on my Mac and started iTunes from scratch. I loaded all my video, podcast and music (without moving or copying), enabled home sharing with the same AppleID i use on my main user at the mac.

Both ATV 3 immediately saw the new library, not a surprise so far. After two days, while both libraries (each belonging to a user in the mac) are seen, but my original one keeps the spinning wheel "loading XXX library", while the new one starts right away. So the problem disappeared using the same version of iTunes and a newly created library.

This would be great except I have several iPads, iPhones and the likes synched with my old library under my regular userid.

The problem seems to be in some corruption at the iTunes level, either the .plists or the library (a bunch of XML files) level.

I would like to know how can I recreate or cleanup this library, without loosing my podcast subscriptions, and my entries.

Maybe this can help point to a very upsetting problem. My old library suffered many iTunes updates and there might be the cause. It is very large library (more than 25,000 entries among all types of media).

    Hope this helps...
