Q: Time Machine Lion server - disk not available
Hello,
I install Lion server on a MacMini last week, and I want to use TimeMachine server for the backup of my macs (MacPro and iMac)
What I use :
- MacPro : Lion - RAID 0 of 2 HDD of 500Go - 8Go Ram
- Imac : snow leopard - 1HDD of 500Go - 2Go Ram
- MacMini : Lion server - 1HDD of 320Go with 2 partitions of 160Go - 3Go ram
WD My book lx 1To on the Macmini with firewire
- Airport Extreme
All are connecting with ethernet cable
What I do :
I connect to the MacMini a 1To disk (WD My Book studio lx) on firewire.
I configure TimeMachine preference to use this disk .
And on the MacPro (it's with lion) I set TimeMachine to use the disk backup on MacMini, I log with my ID ... all ok.
But when the backup starts, I have an error message : backup disk is not available.
I try to configure TimeMachine on the iMac who running under snow leopard, as I do on the MacPro and it works !
What I try :
- I use the internal disk of the mac mini on a partition
- I format the My Book in order to use GUID and HFS+
- I reinstall the mac pro with a clean install of lion.
- I reinstall the mac pro and using only 1 HDD (no RAID this time)
But none of these make a difference, I can't use TimeMachine on the MacPro with the backup disk on the macmini server
Any idea ?

I found my error.
I use name of the account (johnsmith) instead of the name of the user (John Smith) when I enter the parameters of the client in order to connect to TimeMachine on my server.
If I use the name account, I get the error message when TimeMachine try to make the first backup
If I use the name of the user, it works.
