I've been having this issue since about ios 4.1 though they did fix it with a couple of revisions and then it came back. I was hoping it would'nt happen again with iOS 5 but alas, it did.
I'm with you on this one...Its frustrating not being able to use my iphone 4 for music. Currently resorting to cds which play flawlessly on my JVC KD-R616. I didn't spend $2k on a system to fumble around with cds. Pretty crap really.
I'm assuming you've tried restarting your iphone? I rarely turn mine off but this has occasionally worked for me, to temporarily solve the issue. Though sometimes it returns after a re-sync with itunes.
so anyway, im not really sure what the issue is. Hopefully the first iOS 5 delta update will fix it.
For now, cds with have to do, i guess...
Let us know how you go.
good luck mate

Ya man same here. I didnt spend all this money on aftermarket audio to not be able to use my iphone. i am glad to see I am not the only one with the problem anyway. I will try and reset my iphone and see if that helps otherwise its back to my 32gig Patriot flash drive until this BS problem is fixed, but thanks for the responce anyway man!!

Same issue with a Nano 6 gen with version 1.2 PC and iPhone 4 with version 4.2.10 (8E600). Everything was great before the software updates. Audio is poor with headphone jack and USB. Not an issue with the song files as they play fine through iTunes on the PC
Like everyone else, pretty annoyed after spending $$$ on iPods and songs through iTunes which now can't properly perform their primary function as a music player.

Even with ipod touch, the popping noise is there. The only solution I found is to reset your device via itunes, and do a full restore. That's they only way I fix mine, but then again it keeps coming back so expect to do it everytime. If you have a big library like mine, it is a pain...but better than hearing those pops, or if your radio can connect via bluetooth streaming, it doesnt affect that...just USB.

I have the same thing with an Alpine headunit, and iPhone4 with the iOS 5.1 release. It has been on and off for many months. I thought it migth be HW realted, either my unit, or a defective chipset etc. Becuase it seems to happen only on the USB out.
So, maybe it will change when the new HW comes out. Like many of you, doing resets or restores sometimes works, sometimes not. What is infuriating is it just randomlly happens. Its like having a squak in your car chassis you can never find, and it only happens somethimes. Just never when you want to show a 2nd person.
