I have an Epson Stylus Photo R1800 that I have been trying to get to work properly with my iMac for over a year now.  It works great with my PC's, but all my high-end photo work is now on the Mac, and basically I have no photo printing capability with that machine.  I have downloaded the appropriate printer driver-- or at least I think I have-- and it seems to have installed OK.  When I look on the "Driver Options" in the printer control panel, it says that the printer driver is Epson SP R1800.

All I get are basic printing functions, I cannot change paper or manage color, and there is no ink readout like there is with the PC's.  What is going on?  This is driving me nuts!  Many thanks for all help.   -J. Beau

I have the Epson Stylus Photo 1400. The options for paper etc are in the print preview window from Photoshop. You can select paper types etc from within there.

If you just hit print, you'll get a basic print output. Choose print preview and then select your different options.

    Hope this helps

I'm using PhotoShop Elements, and there is nothing like what you describe on the options.  Even when I do click the "preview" button on software when that is available, I still do not get the full set of options, and it always assumes plain paper.  Thanks for the suggestion, though, I'll keep clicking through and see what else I get.  -JB

Here's the link to Epson's OS X Lion support page

You should find everything you need there to get your printer working.

When you hit print in Photoshop, do you get the print box as shown?  Also are your presets set as pointed out?

In Photoshop you select Print Preview from the File Menu. You then have a drop down option within the settings on the preview pane to tweak and configure the printer.

Unfortunately I don't have a Mac in front of me to get a screen shot (I'm waiting on Apple to deliver a replacement) and it's been a few weeks since I had an operational Mac in front of me, so I'm going on what I can remember    lol but you get colour management, paper options etc.

With recent versions of Elements, you click Print in the PSE print window, then make your selections for paper profile, ink, etc. in the OS X print window that comes up next. In lion, you will need to click Show Details, and then there's a pulldown menu in the middle of the page where you can choose. In 10.6, click the down arrow next to the printer's name to expand the window if you don't see the menu.

There doesn't seem to be any "OS X print window" that comes up, other than the little indicator window.  It does not give me any options for any kind of papers, inks, etc., nothing like that appears.  When I click on "preview" the Preview program pops up with the image in it, and again there are no options for any kind of specialized paper or inks.

I'm not talking about paper size here, I'm talking about glossy and matte photo papers, etc.  All the sizes seem to be switchable, but plain paper is the only option.

Also, the link to the Epson support page link posted by another respondent was not working.  I searched through the Epson site for support, but it appears that they do not support this printer anymore, or at least not with OSX 10.6!  I can find the Epson Stylus Photo 1900, but not the 1800.

Very strange, all this.  I'll have to go back to Windows to be able to get things printed.  Extremely disappointed, I thought Mac was supposed to work so easily with no hang-ups.  -J.
