Yes, I've had many problems (as I've said in a previous post).

I ended up taking my burnt DVD's to a friends who still has Leopard (or Snow Leopard - not too sure) and they ripped fine, no problems what so ever.

Interestingly, another friend who hasn't upgraded to Lion is also experiencing problems after updating his iTunes, so perhaps that is where the problem lies, maybe.

I do wish Apple would own up about this, it's childish and more than frustrating...

I've just tried the same blank disc in my 2011 MacBookPro (with Lion) and no problem so it seems to narrow it down to certian pre 2010 models. My MacPro is a 2009 model but the superdrives in that have never worked properly so I can't rely on that for testing Lion and disk burning... will continue to try and do Apples work and troubleshoot again.

Is ANYONE FROM APPLE going to respond to this?  I'm getting fed up with not being able to read burnt cd's or dvd's and that is a major problem that obviously lies with Lion or the iTunes updates...

Acknowledge this problem now Apple.  ferfuckssake.

Actually, I had the same problem, iTunes seemed to not recognize the blank cd I was trying to burn. However, Lion just has a different setting with iTunes. To burn a blank cd follow the following steps:

    1. Insert the blank cd

    2. Open iTunes

    3. Create a new playlist

    4. Drag the songs you want to burn to that playlist

    5. Click on the playlist

    6. Go to File --> Burn playlist to disc

    Hope this helped!!

I have bought a MacBook Pro 15'' on 15th January 2012 to the Apple Store (it included Lion 10.7.2). Today I have inserted a new CD in order to import it to iTunes, but nothing happens. The CD is not recognized by Finder. I tried some of the tricks here commented (changing the settings of System Preferences, etc) but the problem persists. I repeat what Ghoul13 says: Is ANYONE FROM APPLE going to respond to this?

Hi. I am new to this. I have ADHD so I have significant problems following thru on things. I have had this problem since the getgo. I thought it was suspicious that they made me order a disc to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard before being able to upgrade to lion, & then lion was done online. Since then, I get no response for CD's, even tho DVD's work fine.

Now my question is, when I try to go in & do what you list here, I guess I am slow. But I am not finding "open in finder" (or however you indicated that. I find everything else. My choices are when I click on it (it is set to iTunes) are "open with application", "run script", or "run script." Any idea on how to find/choose finder? Appreciate any feedback. Thanx.

    Respectfully yours, doug

Why won't this -ucking program recognize the burned dvd-r's I inserted that already have files on them? First facetime... then this. It's my first time ever buying an iMac after all the great things that I've read about (thoroughly) and something simple issues like this occur.

So are we just supposed to wait? Is there a way we can get Apple's attention about this? I mean, I know it's not a huge problem, but it's a problem nontheless...

Steve Jobs would never stand for this. He would have demanded that these issues be handled forthrightly to protect Apple's hard-won image of elegant simplicity. He left genius behind for new products, but someone obviously has already fallen asleep at the switch in quality control. And so the Cancer begins....

That's pathetic, man. I switched over to Mac because of it's amazing reputation and here I am, constantly speaking to technicians who keep pushing a care protection service for $150 or $49 to ask a question... the f is this about?

My Macbook Pro is no longer reading CD's. I burn one with mp3's from my Mac Pro and want to play them on my laptop, but it says it is a blank CD.

Whether I choose to burn an Audio CD or an MP3 CD in the burn selection window of iTunes, it doesn't matter.

This seemed to happen after I upgraded from OS Snowleopard to Lion.

    Any thoughts?

    then prompted insert blank CD

I did and It burned that CD.....Simple !

I was not able to see the CD on the desktop until it was done!!

I'm having the same problem. I have an iMac late 2010 and a Macbook Pro early 2011. Both were running perfectly well on Snow Leopard, doing everything they should do, without problems. I've upgraded to Lion on the iMac and now it will no longer read original DVD films, bought or hired. The Macbook Pro still reads them perfectly well (as the iMac did with exactly the same films prior to the upgrade), but the iMac is no longer recognising them. It just spits them out before mounting them.

I've been a long term Mac user (some 15+ years) and have encountered a couple of problems with OS upgrades, but not many, but this one seems to be riddled with problems and is very disappointing. It does remind me of the frustrations I used to have when I worked on PCs in the past. It is just unacceptable that Apple don't seem to be responding at all to this problem. It is a pretty major problem for someone whose work involves burning film media onto dvds. Once they are burned, they are not recognised. But the problem also occurs with original film dvds bought from the High Street.

I am also going to report this to https://bugreport.apple.com/ as everyone should to make Apple more aware of this problem. It's a bit like upgrading to a new model of the car you've owned for 15 years and finding that reverse gear no longer works. Yeah you can get around it in one way or another, but it's pretty bleeding inconvenient.

Apple certainly need to address this problem (and all the other problems & glitches with Lion)... certainly before they even consider releasing a new OS! If they stray off the well considered path they have been on for so many years, they very quickly will undo all that they have achieved.

    Sort this out!

You know I've had the same problem for quite sometime alreay. It is very annoying! I've had my Mac Book Pro Since 09 and I've never upgraded to Lion. At first everyting was fine and then after wards I did notice that it won't play or recognize any burned cd/dvds. It does suck to have such a great computer operating system that can do everything but burn a cd. I think it something common and it has probably happened after doing their upgrades. I really hope that they do fix this soon! I haven't had a chance to go to genius bar yet but I will have to.

I tried with an external USB DVD and the problem was the same. I insert the DVD and the Lion was not able to read it. Then, I boot a Windows XP using VMware and reconnected the USB DVD again and choose to connect the DVD to Windows. Guess what, Windows was able to read DVD without any problems. Is that a sign ?
