Q: I have a MacBook Air 2011. Therefore I don't have function buttons. Can someone please tell me I can go to an app I am running without closing or minimising the rest?

As an alternative to the old ⌘-tab switcher, you can launch System Preferences > Trackpad > enable Mission Control (four fingers up) and App Exposé (four fingers down) for switching.  Four fingers upward gets you a different view of your apps than does ⌘-tab.
