Your dsl modem should have at least one ethernet connection in
the back. Use a piece of CAT5 cable to connect from the modem
to your Airport Extreme. Setup the extreme per the instructions in
the box or on Apple.com http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/features/easy-setup.html
Setup up your iPad using the same settings you defined above.
If you have any problems, post back and some one will jump in to
assist. Enjoy your Airport and iPad - they work fine in combination here.

Thanks, but i already tried that- have an ethernet cable and plugged it in to airport ,but my DSL modem has only 1 ethernet port and that is taken by the dsl line coming in. The only empty port is a usb port

Which version of the Westell 90 do you have? A quick search seems to
imply that many have a connection for the DSL line and a separate
ethernet jack. If you can provide the model number/letter/version,
someone may be able to run down a picture or the documentation
so as to be able to give you more help.

Where does that Ethernet line come from?
The DSL signal rides on a simple 2W phone line. My belief is that the Ethernet link does to a hardwired computer. Since you have only one Ethernet port, you will have to disconnect the Ethernet link and configure the computer to access the Internet via the WiFi created by the Airport.
