Q: capturing a live stream in fcpx

I use fcpx to capture a 3-4 minute live stream from a single studio camera for our community calendar. This is handy because we add graphics and b-roll in fcpx and then output the completed 3-4minute video to the server. The problem is that fcpx wants to turn the single camera feed into 10 - 12 shorter clips while its capturing the camera feed....as if we were capturing tape and there were multiple start/stops of the camera on the tape. But this is not the case...its a single camera through the switcher with a chroma key. It recognizes the device properly as a datavideo switcher. Why does it segment the feed into short clips? Can I make it stop doing this?

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.7.3), FCPX 1.3
