What do you mean by default? - do you mean when you are creating a post it should be the 'From' address by default? You can't change the order the addresses appear in the drop-down menu on the website or in Mail.
When answering a message in Mail, you can have it default to the address the message was sent to: Mail Preferences>Composing: set 'Send new messages from' to 'Account of selected mailbox'. This doesn' seem to affect new messages, oddly enough, but it does when answering incoming ones. I don't know whether you can do this on the iCloud website, but I rather doubt it.

Thank you Roger for your quick responde, really appreciate it, however; this is not actually what am looking for, it helps though.
Now, the (X@me.com) is your default email account which you use to login through iClould.com, restore your i device and so on, however; you can't use your Alias email (XY@me.com) for this things, because basically its not your default account.

I'm afraid you can't. You're asking in effect to turn an alias into an account, and this isn't possible.

YES you CAN set the default new message email from: address if you are logged into iCloud.com to an alias - I have done so. But I don't use that interface very often - I don't see why we can't set that default in Apple Mail.

You can make your iCloud alias your default iCloud mail adress.
When you start Mail you go to Preferences, Accounts.
On the first tab with Accountinformation you can change your emailadress. Don't change your username.
When you've done that. Save it and Mail will change your mailaccount from an iCloud IMAP account to a MobileMe IMAP account.
This worked for me.

i think you are mistken, when you go Mail>Preferences>Accounts> you only allowed to change your "Full Name" and account's description. There is no way to change your email address from there

Here is a screenshot from my mail preferences. It is in Dutch but there is a red rectangle around the emailadress box.
I changed this emailadress to the alias I wanted to use as my main emailadress to send my mails.iCloud, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Worked for me on my Mac - thanks! Let's see if I can make that happen on my iPhone

I just called Apple. They told me you can't change it on an iOS device.
