Q: Aperture slideshow shows black screen for trimmed videos

Trying to create a slideshow in Aperture with video.  Shows up fine in the slideshow untrimmed, but when I trim the video, it shows a black screen.  What is the issue?

What is your Aperture version and MacOS version? Without knowing that it is hard to recreate and check your problem.

Some things you may want to check: Known problems with video in Aperture not playing properly

Video may not play properly for several reasons:

    • Check, if you have the 3ivx Video Codec installed. That codec may cause crashes or prevent video from being played.http://aperture.maccreate.com/2011/08/25/aperture-3-will-not-play-videos-if-lion -is-installed-and-3ivx-video-codec-is-installed/
    • How did you import the video? If the video is referenced, Aperture will not be able to play it in a slideshow - the video files need to be managed (included in the Aperture Library): Consolidate the video into the Aperture library; File -> Consolidate Master. Even if you see the video while trimming, the actual master file may be not readable for Aperture.
    • Is your Aperture Library inside a shared folder (eg. Users -> Shared   or your Public Folder)? Then the access control lists may prevent the video from playing properly; so move the Library to a regular folder.

Post back, if none of this helps.

Thanks LeonieDF for the assistance.  I'm running MacOS 10.7.3 and Aperture version 3.1.2.  I checked to see if I have the 3ivx Video Codec installed and it doesn't appear so.  I only see AppleIntermediateCodec and AppleMPEG2Codec installed.  I thought that might be the issue since Aperture does crash sometimes working with the videos.

I use a flip camera and imported from a usb port into aperture.  I tried to consolidate the master, but it tells me that no files are referenced.  The videos appear to be in aperture.

I'm the only user on my imac.

    Any other thoughts?  Thanks!

The 3ivx Video Codec usually is needed with a Flip Camera, but if you install it, it may cause any kind of problems, on an iMac it may crash Aperture.

Also look in both libraries for a duplicate Aperture media browser plug-ins, e.g.

    /Library/Application Support/iLifeMediaBrowser/Plug-Ins/iLMBAperture31Plugin.ilmbplugin/

if you are running Lion and still have iLMBAperture31Plugin.ilmbplugin, remove it, if

    LMBAperturePlugin.ilmbplugin is present.

No plug-ins found in aperture.  I know it is a simple fix.  Just need to see what is preventing the videos from being seen in the slide show once it is trimmed.

I tried something- I imported the flip videos in imovie, trimmed in imovie and then imported the trimmed movie in aperture slidshow.  It works, but lots of effort to get it to that point.

Any additional help to correct the issue so I can do all in aperture appreciated.

    Thanks!
