Hi again everyone! This post is going to be off the subject discussed here but I wanted to tell you something interesting I saw today. I live in china and was at the airport today, where I saw one guy using an iPhone 4s. He was on some kind of Chinese tweeter app. Then he did an interesting thing: to get back to the home screen he didn't push the home button: he instead swiped his finger from the low right corner of the phone (NOT ON THE SCREEN, but on the white part!) up to the low part of the screen AND THE CLOSED and he went back to the home screen! Then he repeated the gesture and the app barr opened showing all the apps running in background. He did this 3 or 4 times. I looked at his screen. He did not have assistive touch switched home (there was any button of the screen). The phone was exactly the same as an iPhone 4S. Nothing different, but it suggested to have the low part somehow sensitive to touch. It had still the home button...

Could I have just seen some new kind of OS or even a new phone?! Don't know... If you know one way to repeat this on the present phone pls tell me... It seems a heck of a feature!!!

    Thanks!

I am the same I have issues with the battery performence now as well. I had no issues at any time up till the official IOS 5.1 release. I am not happy, I have seen my phone drop battery life signifcantly just in idle mode and yes I have done every thing from turning off location services to just going with barebones mode. The result is the same.. the battery drops dramatically. Very disapointed apple you made a great device preety much a brick paper weight.

Its so funny because this is all planned out by apple and this issue would have been fixed sooner if it wasnt its been in every single IOS and different version  .. its rediculous that they just scapegoat and say oh restore the phone do this do that .. oh its the phone .. Its none of those and i have proved that with 12 different units surely after that many and still having this go on there is an issue .. NEVER buying an iphone again .. 4 hrs of battery life now barely using it for anything other then calls and texting done restores, hard resets, soft reset, sim card swapes , set up as new , reset network etc.. its all been done even drastic measures like getting new power cords new wall outlet etc.. nothing changed it on the 12 phones.. this issue needs to be addressed  for a change and stop denying there is an issue cause being a programmeri know there is .. the coding is poorly done

Wow, you are and engineer and a programmer?! Amazing.

I think you should just fix your own iPhone as you know so much about what is wrong with it.

Then send the fixes to Apple, maybe you guys can work together to keep it secret!

I can tell by your great linguistic skills and intellectual posts that you are as talented as you say.

I have also an issue with my battery on both ipad2 and iphone4S both running at IOS 5.1.

My battery drain within 6 hours where I was able to do with 5.01 a whole day (17 hours).

My usage pattern didn't changed at all. This really ***** and we as consumers are not taken seriously by Apple So guys from Appel please:

    • solve the problems with the battery asap
    • otherwise make it possible to revert back to ios 5.0.1

    And next time:

    • please, test the known and previous issues through fully

Next time I will not upgrade as easilly as I did now as I have lost faith in this product. It is my first IPhone and Iám glad with it when I can use it

Kiwi you are very arrogant .. and just because someone isnt't the best and writting out what is happening etc does not mean they do not know anything about it.. many of the worlds most successful people have developed or figured out things wihtout being able to write properly.. So i find your comments very rude and demeaning..

BertBIG G .. i tend to agree with your feelings on these as many others do .. I feel that some of these people on here are Apple Fan boys such as kiwiphone.. and all they do is kiss apples *** and tell you to do things many have tried I can honestly tell you through 12 units from 3gs to 6 iphone 4 phones that nothing has changed with regards to the coding in the software they say oh we are working on it etc.. just like the antenna gate thing till they where forced to address it or face a law suit.. its what they called planned obsolences they will be coming out with a new iphone 5 soon and its to push people with old technology into new stuff. hense why they do not allow customers to downgrade to older software because that would make there phones work and have happy customers instead they force us to over time upgrade by making have *** software with bugs or crashes and i have a good understanding where the issue might be .. Just like with i think it was 4.2 i posted awhile back a work around that worked for 97 percent of people and it all had to do with the way things got put on the phone took med 3 weeks to figure out that work around without jail breaking and funny cause a week later apple removed those very posts from this forum and when i brought the solution to store level they dismissed it.. I am determined to bring solutions and by being called rude things on here by people who arnt very mature in there comments and have little knowledge base of what most are facing but are quick to judge .. Either you guys provide solutions or go play with your so called lovely iphones and let us mature people figure out what is causing this together .. Because frankly KIwi and others your acting like 15 year old apple fan boys .. Root kit has something to do with the issue as its constantly taking data from the phone as does the location id in the file records there are some other things i am slowly looking deep into but .. there is a factor i or really anyone one of us who have had units replaced have the ability to control and that is the faulty batteries that could contribute to part of the issue you get a so called new phone but the minute you update there are hardware issues that took a phone from working and made it a paper weight and heat sync get far to hot thus draining the battery at faster rates .. Apple reuses all there phones amongst all the people having these issues they just push them to another city or country etc.. and never address its funny because one of my handsets had data on it from Brazil even when they said it was so called new i asked why is there data on it there like i dunno im like ok lets restore it there like you can do it at home "So called Genius bar guys didn't know?.. So i pulled files using computer diganostics and found locations the person went posts apps that where on it all the records of the phone went back to the store they denied it as well.. Phone a so called Senior advisor 2 months ago sent the logs and still no word back?.. Seems they do not care .. my next is filing a complaint with Consumer affairs & Better business as this has been going on  3 weeks into getting my phone to 1 year and abit now.. but this time everything that could be done was and now i have files to prove what they are doing..Others are also filing claims .. futhermore the false advertising of products is a hot topic with Apple these days its only a matter of time before Apple pulls a Blackberry and doesnt care about users just there profit and its already happening .. I guess fan boys like KIwi will still support them .. how much do they pay you to be a fan boy these days?.. Apple stocks? Apples.. i prefer Oranges these days and something that actually delievers on what they sell

I don't only think you are wrong because you are totally unable to spell or punctuate properly.

Your constant lack of information, and just speculating on what is wrong shows how flawed you are.

You say you are an engineer, and now also a programmer, yet you fail to say exactly what is wrong on the iPhone software.

If you are going to say that Apple is purposely writing bad code that make batteries weak then please do show the evidence.

So far all you have done is whine and cry that they are somehow in a conspiracy to make you buy more iPhones; and yet you also say you are driven away from Apple for the very same reason.

    Doesn't that defeat your argument?

I am only really trying to make sense of your writing and statements as the contradict themselves and are written at a level of a 7 year old.

Apple Fan boys such as kiwiphone.. and all they do is kiss apples ***

Wow, is that all you have?

Is anyone who thinks your arguements are not valid and non-sensical a "Fan Boy"?

So by me admitting there was a problem, and trying to help people I am now a "Fan Boy"?

    So what are you then?

I can honestly tell you through 12 units from 3gs to 6 iphone 4 phones that nothing has changed with regards to the coding in the software they say oh we are working on it etc

So you are silly enough to know there has been a problem, and yet you keep buying more iPhones?

    Who is stupid now?

i posted awhile back a work around that worked for 97 percent of people and it all had to do with the way things got put on the phone took med 3 weeks to figure out that work around without jail breaking and funny cause a week later apple removed those very posts from this forum and when i brought the solution to store level they dismissed it..

Who sung that song "Dreamer, you ain't nothing but a dreamer..."?

    This did not happen.

I have been here all this time, and you never posted a solution that fixed 97% of people's problems.

I can't imagine if you presented Apple with a solution in the manner you conduct yourself in these forums why they ignored you?

    What a surprise!

But back to topic, if you've fixed the issue why don't you post it to a forum that allows talk of Jail Breaking?

If you have the fix then why do you come back here crying that it is still an issue?

my next is filing a complaint with Consumer affairs & Better business as this has been going on  3 weeks into getting my phone to 1 year and abit now..

    Please do file away.

This has been going on for 3 weeks? Or one Year?

    What are you saying.

You should really write this down and read it before you post, you're not making sense bro.

futhermore the false advertising of products is a hot topic with Apple these days

Do you actually read the news?

That is relating to 4G standards, and it has been resolved.

What does it have to do with batteries in the iPhone 4?

You're quite smart putting those pieces together!

how much do they pay you to be a fan boy these days?.. Apple stocks? Apples

I am not on Apple's payroll.

I just find it funny reading how totally inept you are at making any rational sense.

Can't help but poke you into your fits of frothy madness.

    You make me laugh.

No one here has ever taken you seriously, but it's great that you keep coming back and imagining that someone will think your the man.

i prefer Oranges these days and something that actually delievers on what they sell

This is priceless! You nailed it there with a witty oine liner that shows us who's boss....... for the record it's not you!

Sorry to see that a serious problem (at least for me it is) with the battery discharging of the IPhone with IOS 5.1 is been snowed under by all kind of side discussions about language, punctuation and what one believe or not.

I'm also not a native speaker and will certainly make mistakes in wording, but that shouldn't meant that I'm not taken serious. I have a serious problem after the update from 5.0.1 to 5.1 for which I take Apple responsible. This battery drain problem can only be solved by Apple and they should do so.

In my opinion now this subject is suffering under argumenting and I can't believe Apple will take this subject serious anymore . Although Kiwiphone4 and Calgarystar both will handle from their strong believe they are right I don''t think it is helpfull for the rest of the people who would like to to have the battery problem solved.

I will switch to a different forum so the both of you can continue argueing but I suspect you will never agree upon one another so you both could also decide to stop instead making a very long threat with no help for any person with the battery problem.

    Best regards, Bert

That's O.K, I think it's less about his lack of language skills as a lack of logic skills.

Your English is much better the Calgar's.

He should just speak in his own language really...

There is no one from Apple here.

As you can read by the state of nonsense that some people write, there is no actual Apple support or communication here.

You are best to talk to Apple here:

Yeah, this thread is jacked, but I am just baiting the troll.

It's a hobby, I plan to keep at it.

Anyway, back on track with the discussion!

I have an iPhone 4S 64GB and updated to iOS 5.1.   This seemed to cure my battery drainage problems, not that they were that severe to begin with anyway.

I could stay at 100% battery for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours with very light usage!

Then suddenly, this week, my battery has started dieing over night!!!!

I have NO APPS running in the background either!

I've given it a full charge this morning from empty without interruption, and took it off charge at 10:15am.  At 11:00am is 95% and 11:03 is 94%. and I've not even used it!!

PUSH is OFF and set to manual.  WiFi ON.  iCloud and PhotoStream ON., Bluetooth OFF.

I have followed a previoud post of doing a Hard Rest, holding the home and Standby button for a Reset, Twice in succession, but the fact that the post said it doesn't reset on the second attempt...well...It does reset on the second attempt.  Am I doing something wrong???

I don't want to Restore my iPhone from new as I have lots of data and game saves that I've worked on for months and I'll loose it all!!!

Anyone with any ideas??  Why has this suddenly started happening??  Why did it not happen straight away after the iOS 5.1 update???

I've just put my iPhone into Airplane mode at 94% 11:03, and now at 11:33 (half an hour later), it's at 92%.

So the problem isn't 3G/Wifi mode as they are both OFF in Airplane mode.

    Hmmm!!!

Here is what fixed my iPhone 4,

    Go to Settings, Location Services,

scroll all the way down to System Services,

scroll all the way down again, and choose to show location services icon in status bar.

It may be a rogue system location service,

Mine was playing up on Setting Time Zone.

It just stayed trying to play with the GPS, and thus drained the battery to ****.

Once I turned that off I have been enjoying normal battery usage.

Not saying it's the solution, but it might help.

I checked this feature out and it is turned on.

I turned it off and then back on again.

I've also connected my iPhone to my MAC and sync'd it up with a backup.

I found a way of preserving APP Info from this site:

    http://isource.com/2010/10/13/how-to-recover-iphone-app-data-after-a-clean-resto re-osx/

I thought I'd just have a look into a way to restore APP Data from games and APPs etc incase the only answer was to RESTORE my iPhone as NEW.

I've monitored my iPhone since taking it off my MAC (which meant it being on charge too), I took it off at 100%, and looking at the time since last charge.... 1 hour 9 minutes, it's still at 100%.  WIERD EH!!!

    I don't understand what's going on?

I usually WiFi Sync.  Maybe my iPhone missed being connected to my MAC??? Mybe my MAC removed or set straight a rogue setting/file???

    Hi Kiwi

I had the same faulty Setting Time Zone location service running on my phone.  Have turned it off and battery seems to have improved. Thanks for the post.

I just wanted to post another update about how well my iPhone 4s is doing since I have updated to 5.1 it's been 3 days & 7 hours since my last charge before the update I was charging my phone at the end of everynight. I set my phone up as a new phone when I updated it I did not restore from a backup. I suggest that people with battery life issues try this. I also suggest turning off your 3G & wifi if your not using them it will give you way better battery life. Also turn brightness down to about 40% turn off location services to everything but find my iPhone. Also turn off ping Bluetooth automatic time zone & turn off pushing the mail to your iPhone just have it set to check manually. These things should help out a ton.

Are you for real? I bought my iPhone at a cost of £600...I paid this for a SMART phone and for all the services that it came with! I didn"t buy it to turn off all these services and reduce it to a £25 Nokia.

It's about time Apple got there act together or they might as well offer Bill Gates the CEO job because they are going more like Microsoft every day.

As for iOS 5.0.1, I updated to this two weeks ago while in Hong Kong. Prior to updating I was charging my phone once a day with most of the services (location, Wi-Fi, Notifications) all swithched on. After the update I have ended up having to charge my phone at least two to three times a day + it is dropping my network for about 30% of the day...Some fix!!!
