Mar 18, 2012 6:57 AM in response to ChiefZby ticzon,Looks like we will never get Rosetta on Lion. "Thanks a lot Apple. You just turned your back on Mac users who were with you even when you were almost dead..."
As a business owner (Mac Users since 1991, Shareholder since 1997), I too can not upgrade my office machines due to the need of Rosetta. One of the applications that I rely on is no longer supported (the software company is long gone) and there is no replacement.
I looked and hunted for a replacement, but nothing comes even close.
I feel that most of the people who are positng here (tell us to give up on Rosetta) are new Mac users, and / or not business owners.
I guess we need to get Apple to allow us to run the Mac Client of Snow Leopard in a virtual machine inside Lion (similar to Snow Leopard Server).
I always like upgrading my hardware (I own over 40 macs), but with the lost of Rosetta, I am now stuck...

Mar 24, 2012 9:07 AM in response to Chris J Wittby msmgs0,For me, I will CarbonCopy my 10.6 to an external drive to use as a startup drive plus keep
my old ibook if needed and get on with life.
(I have updated my PPC apps but I do have Tax programs I may need to use.)

Mar 24, 2012 9:21 AM in response to Chris J Wittby Eric.,I upgraded the critical (paid) apps in advance of an upgrade to Lion; I only overlooked one.
My MBP shipped with and boots Snow Leopard, and I have a clone prior to the upgrade on an external just in case. I've needed it a few times.
I bought a copy of Snow Leopard Server just in case something comes up, I still haven't made a VM out of it yet.

Mar 26, 2012 2:47 PM in response to Chris J Wittby MlchaelLAX,I continue to use Rosetta in Lion through Snow Leopard in Parallels 7.
My need is Quicken Deluxe 2002, which supports stock market transactions. The recent Quicken 2007 for Lion only works with data from Quicken 2005, 2006 & 2007; there is no upgrade path for prior years.
This has worked for me 24/7/365:

Mar 26, 2012 3:20 PM in response to MlchaelLAXby Martin Pace,The upgrade path is to buy the Quicken 2007 for Mac (PPC version) and upgrade using that under a OS X 10.6.8 or earlier version. Then buy/install the Quicken 2007 for Lion and transfer the Quicken Data File to the Lion partition.
I had Quicken Deluxe 2002 and updated to Quicken 2007 for Mac (PPC) last year after Intuit stated that they were not supporting the older formats with future updates. It's not too late, Quicken 2007 for Mac (PPC) is still available from resellers, but is a bit more expensive. You might even try calling Intuit and see if you can get a copy of the PPC version for free or at a reduced price along with the Lion version.

Let me get this straight, you took a business decision to rely on software that is unsupported and in order to make that decision work you want Apple to remain mired in the past!
That is exactly what Windows is for.

Thank you, Martin: Quicken 2007 does not support stock market transactions; so in my case, even if this approach works, the ultimate result is unsatisfactory for my needs.
Using Quicken Deluxe 2002 in Rosetta in Lion buys me the time to see how others progress away from Quicken on the Mac platform and learn from their experiences for a future solution.

Apple announced six years ago that PPC coding would be dropped. They paid people the courtesy of having extra time to update or replace programs by introducing Rosetta into Snow Leopard (An OSX by the way, that was not even able to be installed on PPC machines - a pretty strong statement). Now, after six years, PPC has gone, so too has Rosetta within systems. As Csound1 said, it's nothing to do with Apple if you choose to use some program so far out of date that the company isn't even around anymore. I do not know what the program was, but I would be guessing that it could be replaced by a much more up to date and more powerful program if you searched.
Good Luck

Maybe if you tell us some more specifics, we can be of more help to you.
Your suggestion of using Snow Leopard in a virtual machine inside Lion is EXACTLY what I use and it is working almost perfectly for me and others who have sought out my help for their needs (see my post above on this page).

But it is still a violation of the license.

Yeah I find using virtual machines a bit of pain in you-know-what.
Actually SL Server for the VM and Windows too were a pain on the wallet, which I sit on, so maybe that's what caused it.
